Help Notification sounds cut off . . .

Hey all

Like title says everytime I get a text the notification sound plays for like 1 secound then goes off.
Had the phone since release day and it hasn't done that before.

Any ideas?

Cheers

I've been getting this, I thought it might be because it was in my pocket and my trousers touched the display when it lights up with the text and maybe cancels the sound. Not too sure but at least for now we know that we're not the only ones

Just as an experiment,
Try going to settings>motion, turn off 'turn over to mute/pause' and 'palm touch to mute/pause' and see if it still happens.

ok so took the motion settings off and took out of my pocket . .
got a text and it played all sound . . .put it back in pocket and it cuts out so yeah I think its the pants pocket touching the screen and cutting sound out . . .

edit . .. no its still doing it on the table . . .might actually be motion settings after all
:-/

This is also happening to me, I've tried playing around with all the settings and can't get it to stop happening.

Has anyone had any luck with this?

I figured it out, figured I'd post in case someone else comes looking for the same information.

For me, SMS's were causing this. Specifically the problem occurs when conversations began to get very long. I realised after a friend SMS'd me and it played the sound perfectly fine, but cut off while playing it when my partner SMS'd me.

TL;DR: Caused by long conversation history for whatever reason, delete messages to remove the notification issue.

I registered just to thank you. I know it's just notification sounds, but it was bugging the crap out of me.

Just had this start happening tonight & your solution worked.
Thanks very much for that.

Hi, what I learned from elsewhere is that you might not even have to keep the threads of the messages short, you just need to go Messages>Settings find "Delete Old Messages" and UNCHECK that, that solved it for me and even when I have a very long message thread and get another I get the full notification message

My only worry about that would be the messaging app getting bogged down and laggy by the extra long threads. On past phones the conversations had gotten so long that trying to delete them would crash the messaging app!

This has been happening to me since I got it. I'm going to turn off the motion settings to see if this makes any difference. It is happening with all of my notification sounds. I have notification sounds for a number of apps and not just for messaging. They all have the notification sound cut off at the beginning.

I've been having the same problem all day, and it was pissing me off. If you uncheck the 'delete old messages' box on the message settings display it really seems to solve the problem.

Hmmm. Maybe I'll give this a try. I actually like to delete old messages.

Does this affect other notification sounds as well? I have notifications for other apps and not just messges that are cut off at the very beginning.

I haven't had a chance to change my messaging retention settings yet. I noticed that when playing a game called Gachinko Tennis, I notice a delay in the sound. When I first start up the game and play, the sound of the first time that the raquet strike the ball is not there. Then all subsequent sounds appear to play properly. It seems unusual that a message retention setting would affect sound everywhere else on the phone.

I have just restarted my phone to resolve some other issue I had. I'll see if the restart also fixes the sound issue I am having.

I have found the solution to my issue. When I first copied the notification sounds from my old phone to my PC to my new SGS3, I get a prompt asking if I wanted to convert my sound files. I clicked on <Yes> as the message indicated that there may be issues if I don't. When the sound files are converted, the beginning part of the sound is cut off.

I decided to copy those files over again, but this time, I chose not to convert them. When I use the unconverted notification sound files, they are not cut off at the beginning.

I have been having this same problem with my Samsung Galaxy SIII. What is weird is I have noticed that it only happens when my screen is locked, but if I am already on my phone and I get a text, the tone plays all the way through.

Like other readers, I have had the issue with STOCK notification ringtones cutting off early before the entire sound is played. I also had the same issue with custom ringtones I created. After reading these posts, I decided to try ONE suggestion at a time to nail the solution.

My stock S3 (Android 4.1.1) comes with SMS/MMS settings of: "Text message limit" of 200 and "Multimedia message limit" of 20.

When I increased the "Text message limit" to 300 - the problem IMMEDIATELY stopped. I went back and changed it to 201 - and the problem returned. I changed it to 250 and the problem IMMEDIATELY stopped again.

For me, there is no big difference between keeping 200 or 250 SMS messages - so I have left it at 250, txt MANY MANY times and have never had the problem occur again. It is very quirky that Android has tihs issue, but if you change your "Text message limit" from 200 to 250, the notification sounds play all the way through.

It will start doing it again when you reach 250 in a single conversation. Just turn the limiting feature off altogether to fix - after all, SMS are likely to be the least of your worries if you're running low on storage space!
