Notification sounds

Re post in here as getting no response in other thread

Hi, I'm completely new to android and the Z1 is my first step into the unknown. There are many reasons I've jumped ship from Apple (stale, overpriced) but a big reason was customisation.

now my issue I'm currently having on the Z1is I can't for the life of me figure out how (if at all possible) to set individual text notification sounds for different contacts

I can set individual phone ringtones but text Is just a generic across the board sound for all contacts (I could even do this on Apple!)

Maybe I'm missing something but I can't find anywhere how to do it also how do I change Facebook notification sounds and email and so on I'm lost!

You can do that in the messaging app.

But a better way to show off Android customization is to download an app from the Play Store. Start with the free version of LightFlow.

It can customize ringtones, repeat notifications, vibrations, vibration reminders and LED color (colors is hardware dependent) for each contact by calls, SMS, etc. It can also customize by app.

So for me, if I can see my phone across the room I know exactly what is going on with it. A blue slow blink is gmail. A blue fast blink is g+. A green fast blink is a text from my daughter. A red is a missed call. White fast blink is an SMS. White slow blink is Whatsapp, etc. etc. etc.

Same thing for notification/ringtones. I can set them by person or app. And have the repeat notifications be the same or different sound and set how often they repeat and for how long.

If you like the free version of LightFlow (it is not reduced functionality or a timed trial) - consider buying the full-version. It works with more apps.

Thanks @gtbarry funnily enough I posted elsewhere the same thing and got the same answer! I now have the app running and it's so much better! (on contacts I could only set ringtones not text notifications but doesn't matter now!)

You should get default abilities for gmail, SMS, MMS and calls when you add a contact into your Notifications. Also, supported apps (in the paid version) such as Whatsapp, etc.

I don't think SMS or MMS require the paid version. Are you using stock messaging?

I meant in the stock message app/contact list I cannot set individual text tones but I can in lightflow thanks think I'll get the paid app also as although the lite version Is great the paid app covers things like FB and twitter also

Thanks for your help

even without root, you can use ES File Explorer to select notification tones you download, when you install that app, download your tone, save it somewhere. then go to settings--sounds--notification ringtone--select (it will display a dialog asking if you want to use the stock Android select tool or the ES File Explorer app). select 'ES File Explorer' and click 'just once'. it will then launch the app and then you can find the folder you saved the tone to, select the tone and it will then go back to settings and enable it.

i got the Price is Right losing horn as my tone :)
