Help Notification

I thought I asked this before but...here goes. I don't get any notification at all from my calendar on my phone. What Am I doing wrong? New to android from the BB world.
Not sorry I switched but ...
What is SMS; I have tried email, SMS and pop up, yet nothing comes up. So far I am quite happy but sure miss getting reminders.

You need to add a reminder in your calender event'd properties to be notified
edit the event and click the + button in the reminders section
