Help Notifications and toggles

Brand new to Android, and I'm already confused about a few things on my GS3.

1) In the slide-down notifications tray, I see something called "Driving Mode". I'm not too clear on what this does, and I haven't found a suitable answer online. The general consensus is that when in driving mode, the GS3 will read out text messages and e-mails to you when you receive them. Is this true? And if so, will it work with WhatsApp messages?

2) This morning I missed an e-mail because the GS3 did not give me a notification. I manually went into the Gmail app and saw there was a new e-mail but I didn't receive any prior notification.

3) When I was listening to my a podcast yesterday, when I received an incoming text, the audio paused, the notification sound played, and then the audio resumed. I really don't like this behaviour; I'd rather have the audio go quiet and the notification sound play, as it did on my iPhone.

4) How can I customize each app's notifications?

5) In the notifications tray, I don't see any toggles for airplane mode or data. Is there any way I can add them?

Thanks in advance.

1. Yes its true. Whatsapp - no idea. Functionality removed from notifications in 4.1.1

2. Not sure what the question is. You should receive notifications. Check Gmail notification settings (per account)

3. Not sure what you're listening to pod casts with. I use poweramp as my player and it has settings for this. Its a setting in whatever player you use if it has one

4. Each app will have settings within it, if it allows it

5. You cannot add to the stock toggles until 4.1.2

1) What functionality was removed from 4.1.1? Driving Mode or just the toggle?

2) I checked, and everything was well. Strange thing is, I received another e-mail and I got the notification just fine.

3) Ok got it. I found the setting in the app I use (BeyondPod) and it seems to work now.

4) Ok.

5) Oh, damn. That sucks. Is 4.1.2 rolling out anytime soon? I've only heard about 4.1.1, and I should be getting an OTA update anytime now from my carrier.

People should specify which carrier they are on, so the appropriate peeps can respond.
I'm on Sprint, I have the airplane mode and data toggles. Try swiping your toggles to the left?

My carrier is listed in my user details on the left. I'm on Rogers.
I've already tried scrolling left and right but I just don't have those toggles. Quite annoying.

No matter, I just found Power Toggles which is pretty sweet. Too bad it's an extra widget and I'll need to be a specific home screen to access it, but it's better than nothing!

[edit]
Ok apparently I can also add these toggles to my notifications tray. They won't be with the other notification icons but I think it's still better than a widget.

Yeah driving mode goes. 4.1 2 only rolled out this week for international s3. Many still on 4.0.4.

Those of us on tapatalk can't see the carrier info
