Notifications hide themselves after a while.

I am seeing some different behavior as far as notifications go vs how my jellybean device worked and I want to know if this is normal on kitkat or if there is a setting I am missing.

If I get a notification from the calendar the calendar icon will show in the notification bar for a while then it will hide itself so if I pull down the bar it's there but the calendar icon will be gone from the notification bar. On my previous devices the calendar icon would stay visible until I cleared the notification.

This is annoying and I want to know if this is normal operation or not.

I don't think that is normal.
In settings/security, tap on "Notification access". That will show you if any third party app has access to dismiss/read notifications

I have seen this happen also. So far I can't see a pattern. It appears to happen to me randomly.

This happens to me as well, so it's definitely something that is "supposed" to be happening. Does it related to the time of the calendar event? Like if you don't clear the calendar notification before the calendar event or a certain amount of time after a calendar event stops, then it goes to only being in the tray and not having an icon? I think that's the situation in which I notice mine doing that.
