To set sound notifications for incoming texts, try:
Go to Settings (the blue box with the lines and circles in it will take you there)
Click Sound
Click Default Notification
Click Ringtone
Pick a ringtone (I use TaDa, for example)
Click OK
Click the backward bending arrow (screen back) twice -- you should be back at desktop, and hopefully you've set the sound for your incoming texts.
