Notifications Issue

Has anyone experienced any problems on their Gear watch concerning certain notifications? This is in regard to the notifications for EMAIL (stock), ChatON, and missed calls. I can delete the actual notification but the banner sayig you have that particular message never goes away for those three things. I have to totally reset the watch to get them to go away. Samsung is being completely useless for this. They tell me it's either the watch, the phone or the network. Really? How about you just send me a new watch and we can be done with it? No, they want me to send the watch and maybe I get it back 3 weeks later. If I can't resolve this in an easier manner, I'm dumping this thing. Not worth all this aggravation. To bad because other than this, I like it a lot. :(

They also suggested that if you delete the message on the phone, it should go away on the watch. I have NEVER seen THAT happen either. What say you?

Bring it in to a Best Buy and look for the Samsung kiosk or desk. Most of those people are pretty helpful (they work for Samsung, not Best Buy). They can't give you a new one, but if they determine that the problem is a defective watch, it may be worth the wait. Or if it's defective firmware, they can probably reflash it while you wait.

Turns out that is exactly what I did.I was really hoping. Yah, he helped me out pretty quickly too. I seriously thought I had tried what he did but apparently not. For those banners that wouldn't go away, you simply have to long press on it and it gives you options, one of which is to delete it from the list. Totally thought I had tried as it is a rather obvious thing to try but apparently not. Anyway, I was glad I got it solved and now I am more convinced than ever that Samsung support (on the phone anyway) is next to pathetic. How could they NOT have known that? And the things they were throwing out there as possibilities made absolutely NO sense to anyone who has basic IT knowledge. Ridiculous but like I said, just glad to get it resolved. Tip of the hat to the Samsung guy at Best Buy. I think all of the ones I talked to there are pretty smart guys.

Now I'm curious: how are you getting email notifications on your Gear? All I get are call and text notifications...

I just checked that and sure enough, you were correct however after further research, I ALSO discovered that as a result of the recent update, it cleared ALL of my secondary notifications (those on the additional screen). Dumb me had only checked the first screen and assumed it carried over. Stupid thing.

I just activated the stock email app on my S4 (been using K9 for my Yahoo emails). NOW I get email notifications

Weird that it doesn't notify for gmail though.

It does notify for GMAIL. If you aren't getting them, then something isn't set right. Is your gmail setup thru the stock email app or the gmail app? You need to make sure that the nitification check in Gear Manager is turned on for whichever one you are using.

It's set up through the gmail app

If you are positive you have notifications for GMAIl turned on in Gear Manager, then maybe the best thing is to call Samsung Mobile Support. They are usally pretty helpful. Either that or go by a Best Buy store if you have one near you. The Samsung guys there are pretty knowledgeable as well. Samsung Mobile - 888-987-4357

I don't have the watch yet, but I read on another forum that you will only get Gmail notifications if your phone screen is off.

Yes but as I said previously, this is true of ALL notifications, not just GMAIL. If your screen is currently on, the Gear makes the quite normal assumption that you don't need to see the notification on your watch if you are actually looking at your phone. I think this is quite reasonable and can't imagine why I would want to change that unless perhaps my screen timeout was set for 5 minutes. This just isn't a big issue for me and I think you may be making more of it than it is. If so, just get in the habit of turning your screen off when you put the phone down. Problem solved.
