Is it possible to assign differnet tones to mail and text notifications, or is an app available to do this?

thanks

Welcome to the AF forums and enjoy your visits !!

One of the good search features on this site is TAG Search ....

here is one for ringtone >>> Android Forums - Threads Tagged with ringtones

and here is one for notifications >>> http://androidforums.com/tags/notifications.html

You can set your text tone as normal (menu > settings > notification sound)

Then when you open googlemail hit menu> settings> select ringtone> to change the gmail notification sound.

Are you trying to use a different sound other than the default T-Mobile Sound? I had some problems finding this one too. Tap on the messages widget on the home screen. Make sure you're on the "all messages" screen. Go to Menu--Settings, scroll down to "Select sound". Done!

I was trying to find this out too, and did a search on google...

the answer was quite straight forward...

  • connect your phone to your PC with USB.
  • Mount the SD card on the PC.
  • In the root of the SD card, create a folder called 'notifications'
  • in there put any custom notification sounds you want.
  • Unmount the SD card.
  • Now when you look at the notifications in settings, your audio file should be visible to select :D

You can also do the same with folders called 'ringtones'
