Help nougat USB connection missing

hi everyone!
i am dealing with an uncomfortable problem: since I updated my nexus 6P from android 6 to nougat, when i connect it to my PC i am not able anymore to transfer files in it. i get no MTP menu, no reactions from both PC or phone, it only keeps on charging.
note that I am not using a charge-only cable, and this happens with all computers in my house. My brother's phone, nexus 5X seems to have the same problem since the update.
thanks

Have you looked in Developers Options?

Connect the USB first. You can also pull down the notification shade and tap USB charging to change. Also after you disconnect this will revert back to charging. It's actually a feature to keep your data safe.

When i connect the USB I get no options on the notificazion shade as it used to happen with android 6. What I am saying is that while the phone is connected, if i select the MTP in the developer options, it refuses my selection and remains in charging mode. If i select file transfer, my computer doesn't see any difference. If I open once more the menù after i have selected "file transfer", it shows to be on charging mode.

That is strange. I've got a Nexus 6.

I'm wondering if it is a driver issue. Have you looked in device manager to see what it's being recognized as?

It shouldn't be necessary but I do have USB debugging enabled.

If the computer doesn't see Android than Android doesn't see the computer and therefore won't show connection options. Battery charging current and data transfer are on separate channels. I think you should go into your computers device manager, find the Android driver, uninstall it and then restart the computer. Windows should automatically reinstall it.
You could also try a different USB cable.

If nothing works than look here:

https://developer.android.com/studio/run/win-usb.html

Anyway i am usinf both Linux and windows, and both don't see the the phone. The cable is the same i was using before the update so its working, don't think it got broken. Therefore i think the problem is in the phone, not in the computer driver..

Yep. If Linux doesn't see it then it is definitely not the computer.
A factory reset or possibly a clean install of factory images might help.
You could try using an FTP service to backup your data. It will take longer though.
