Nova Launcher Update question

ok so i just installed nova launcher yesterday and there was an update today lol... my question is how do i install this update.. I am rooted and running Nova launcher AS A SYSTEM APP. So i used the .ZIP file off of the site. Now when my phone downloaded the update it downloaded a .APK file... how do i "install" this updated and still keep Nova launcher running as a system app.. Sorry i am totally new to smartphones in general let alone Androids

Once it is installed as a system app, it will update as a system app. So just download the APK and install it.

what if you just side loaded it like a regular apk? will it auto update OR must you install it in a special way? i did the side load and later it informed me that an update was available but i could not tell if it installed the new updated app. i forgot to check version number and it's not my phone so i can't go back and check easily.

It doesn't matter how you loaded it. However you installed it, it will update the app in that manner, and it will notify the user of new updates.

So if you side-loaded it like a regular APK, it will update itself like a regular APK. If you installed it as a system APK, it will update itself like a system APK.

i ask this because on my EVO if i sideload an app it will not update. only if i loaded it via Market will it update.

is this sideload update feature you speak of a feature of Ice Cream Sandwich or is it a unique feature of Nova Launcher?

well you were the one who said side loaded lol.. but... it is NOT just an ICS thing.. i think your referring to tethering to your PC and then pushing the file onto your phone.. OR you could be talking about having it run side by said with the regular launcher. either way most pones can do it

but regardless... he is correct.. just go to Nova Settings > update.. it will d/l the update then run it and it will install it however you did it originally. For me a system app for you a regular app.

Ohhh, I see.

Nova Launcher has its own built-in update checker. So, no, you will not see Nova Launcher in the list of apps that need to be updated when you go into the market, because it is not a market app. However, Nova will check for its own updates and download them to be installed.
