Help Nova Launcher

I see the postings for the new update, and a lot looks very interesting.

I'm running a 3.3 Prime version and wouldn't mind updating but----
I use an unlocked Oppo Find 7 on TMobileUS. I'm not sure where the discordance occurred, but I had an awful time getting text messages right. The phone for some reason will not work well with Textra or its big brother Chomp. Messages would not be received.

I had to go back to the default messenger which didn't have some of the bells and whistles the other apps have. No notification light, no ringtone for text, you name it. I had to add SMSfix Tesla, Screen Off, and Floatify to get some approximation of Textra/Chomp. I don't feel like doing this again since it is working right now.

If I do update, how much will the new update upset the apple cart?

I'm using Miui icons and they are pretty much the same size on the screen and drawer, but some of the other organization is appealing.

I haven't asked.
I'm not rooted. The device is Chinese, the OS is called Color OS.

The default text messaging had nothing to do with Nova, it's the add-ons I'm worried about.

The phone and most of the gesture apps had nothing to turn off the screen. I had to add an app. The same with missed texts. It was just that with both Nova and Apex I had a hard time getting the displays and notices to work the way I wanted. Color OS was lacking. Those launchers couldn't do what Color OS didn't have.

I just need to know whether Nova leaves customizing apps not of its making alone. I had one trial launcher change them on a rooted Nexus.

I think the authors of Nova Launcher Prime are your best source of a definitive answer on this.

I am not aware of Nova Launcher Prime touching any app on my un-root-ed devices that was not theirs.

Do you realize there is no contact info one the opening website page?

I finally used the page about an apk for Nova, and there was the email contact.
I wrote and they very nicely answered.

It was a statement that sounded like a permanent search bar in the write up in Play. I didn't want a permanent bar of any kind.

Thanks for the direction.

"Nova Settings -Desktop-Persistent Search Bar, or Long Press in empty space....."
Update on Play states this if you hit more on the description of the update.

That sounded like Nova wanted to install a persistent search bar that could not be got rid of.

I read every update description before I do it.

Nova explained what that meant when I asked. I did update.

I can not find your reference.

The option in Nova Launcher Prime allows you to chose the style to display the (awful) Google search bar. One of the options (thank you Nova) is None.

I use Nova Launcher Prime. I don't know what Nova Launcher has.

It is not forcing anything.

You can use the Persistent Search Bar option and select None to not display it.

You can also chose the Nova Search widget and position it anywhere you wan t. It has a drodown that allows you to customize how it looks.

It is controlling what and where it is placed on your home screen (its job).

I am running Nova Launcher Prime 4.1.0.

You can choose to use the persistent search bar, the stock search bar or none at all.
Kevin added the new Marshmallow search bar(s) to Nova with a couple other goodies on the latest stable release.

I didn't read it that way. It sounded like an unwelcome addition that Nova was adding as it didn't say anything about choice. How are you to know if choice is a given?

[2] Nova Settings - Desktop - Persistent Search Bar, or Long-press in empty space - Widgets - Nova Launcher - Quick Search Bar.

That's all it says. Since I neither care for search bars nor widgets, I wanted to check before updating. I had Nova running the way I like it from the get-go, so I haven't bothered to look at the settings on my phone. So I didn't check the settings menu. It looks like an ingredients list in a cooking menu.

I already contacted them and got an answer in a previous post. There is no contact info of any type on the main/opening/product web page. I finally opened the site for the Nova APK, and the contact info was there. Usually businesses put contacts on the home page. I searched rather than open product pages. I have both Nova Prime and Tesla.

Nova sent a very prompt answer after I found the email contact. I was also reading the "what's new" additions on the update page of the phone.

How many here aren't doing auto updates for some apps because the developer has changed things in a way that you don't like or can't use? I read it and found it a bit confusing. I find it's easier to ask first and read before getting a surprise in an update.

Got several apps that I will not update due to changes. Find something you like and keep it.

I don't particularly care for persistent search bars, but I do to keep one on one of my secondary screens. The new "fisher-price" design that Google pushed out ruined that. Wanting to keep a search bar, I downloaded the ICS Search bar widget, from the play store.
I certainly like this one much better...
