Now that you've had your Intercept for a bit...

What are your thoughts about it? I'm considering getting one for my daughter when we sign up with Sprint and we'll be getting the unlimited data family package. Just wondering how owners are feeling about this phone. Is it any good?
 
It's a good phone, I do like it. Where it lacks is when you try to use it as a gaming platform....because it is not. It'll play less graphic intensive games no problem, but it won't do 3D at all or heavy graphics smoothly.

It's a great Android phone, just not a great device for gaming. It's ideal if you don't need 4g or want to pay the extra $10 for it.
 
Sounds perfect for my teenager then! She isn't going to be doing any intensive gaming, but I'm sure she will want to surf the web, post on Facebook, etc. I just wanted input from folks who have used the phone because we can play with phones in stores all we want but it doesn't really give us more than a taste of what it's like. Thanks for your comments. :)
 
Ohh yeah, it's a great phone for anyone who doesn't want advanced gaming or a huge screen like the EVO 4G or Galaxy. She'll like it. It's good for internet and social media places like Facebook.
 
Yeah, it's a great phone if you don't mind it freezing, crashing, draining the battery at lightning speed, disconnecting calls, and on and on and on.

I started with a Moment - that is, after I crossed over into the 21st century and unlimited data, internet, etc. After 2 replacements on the Moment Sprint asked me, "Would you be willing to try a different phone?" I said, "Sure, anything has got to be better than this." WRONG.

I'm NOT a happy Sprint customer right now . . . but maybe you will have a better experience with this pink piece-o-junk than I have. :(

I'm happy to say I haven't had any of those issues. Well, at first I did think the battery didn't last long, but I went through the settings and changed some things, mainly the WiFi and GPS settings, and the battery lasted A LOT longer and now I think it's actually quite well.

For the rest of it, I'd go back to a real Sprint store, not a dealer, and tell them about your problems.
 
neither have I. My phone has be working fine since the day I got it. The only issues I have had was trying to figure out a way to do custom ring tones... and some contact list issues that were a result of my screwing with the phone.

I have 4 of these phones on my plan, and the users of them also love them.
 
Got my gf this phone after she broke her EVO.

So far she loves it. She didn't really notice the resolution drop (?), and the battery is good. Yesterday it lasted her all day.

She only uses a few apps (Pandora, stitcher, Facebook) and this phone works great for that. The keyboard is also quite good, makes me want to get the Epic 4G!

Didn't really notice any lag, the 800MHz processor is doing its job, but I'm keeping the apps on her phone to a minimum.

Excellent! I'm definitely thinking this is the right phone for my daughter now. She won't take advantage of all that the Android OS offers (she's too lazy to bother figuring things out), but as long as she can text, phone and check email/Facebook easily enough without hassle she'll bou e a happy camper.

How does everyone feel about the sliding mechanism for this phone? Does it feel solid and like it will stand up to abuse? My daughter is a bit rough on her phones (she texts upwards of 5000 per month), so I am a little concerned about the slider. She's convinced herself that she wants a physical keyboard though. She loves her friend's Blackberry Curve for the keyboard.
 
I'm rough on things, it's just the way I am. I've broken more phones than I can remember...mainly the pivot joint on flip phones, and and the screen on almost every phone I've ever had. This is the first slider I've owned....I can't say it won't break but it feels pretty solid and after a month or 2 of use it's held up well.

Get on Ebay, cases are cheap. Less than $5 and some are bundled with car chargers (It's an Android phone, you're gonna need a car charger LOL) and free shipping.

Better to let the case take the damage than the phone. They have them with designs and solid colors. Same stuff you get in the mall and pay $20 for. ;)

ever heard of bad pick of the litter? you more than likely got a bad one out of the bunch,im rooted but even before i was rooted i couldnt complain.i mean once you go to downloading apps and using widgets,wifi,etc..of course your phone is goin to get laggy and even freeze.its expected with just about any smartphone. best thing to do is to get your msl code from sprint and do a data restore on the phone once or twice a day. it was a real life saver for me until i got rooted
 
I can't recommend this phone. I have two (one for my son and one for my wife) and my friend and his wife both have Intercepts.

All 4 exhibit the same exact behaviors, even after a factory reset with no apps installed...

* The home buttons are unresponsive
* Location services in Apps does not work
* Has the famous Samsung Airplane Mode bug where it looses data connection
* Phone will slow down and not respond to anything and then all of a sudden comes back to life buffering up all the actions you did trying to get it to work.

I'm praying that 2.2 fixes all these issues so maybe then It'll be a good phone. Until then however I'd pass.

i beleive the 2.2 update will some of the data issues,but as far as the touch buttons not responding i dont think it would.but i think that the touch buttons not working are only on some phones(even tho everybody has that problem) i say that because i tried rooting and bricked my first intercept and once i got my new one it worked fine.im rooted now and couldnt be any more happier with my intercept
 
Something on the phone is taking CPU cycles from the OS. At times my wife's Pink Intercept flows like a dream, other times it just bogs down to the point of being unresponsive. This is a stock Intercept with not much running. My son's silver Intercept is about the same. There's no indication of what is going on during this time of unresponsiveness.
 
I think some of the above posters underestimate how much cruft comes pre-loaded on this phone courtesy of the carrier. Root this phone, remove the carrier apps, and the difference is quite noticeable. I got irritated at the slowdowns and soft-key problems until I rooted and removed sprint's applications.

google "joeykrim intercept" and you'll be happier with this phone.
 
2 weeks i made my switch from verizon to sprint and i got the intercept. Its GREAT for everyday use. The only thing is the keyboard is HARD to get used to and the graphics arened that good for 3D gaming. I use mine for tecting, calling, browsing the web, facebook etc and its great.

Do all those apps run in the background? My two Intercepts are stock and when I look at the running services I don't see any Sprint installed stuff running unless of course I run them.
 
My wife and I have been blackberry users for many years and made the switch to the Intercept two weeks ago. The phone is a great entry level android device. We have not had any of the problems that others have mentioned. The battery life could be a little better and the keyboard takes some time getting used to. Overall it's a decent phone. I like it & my wife loves it. (I'm still within my 30 days...I want an Epic).
