Nubbies Vs Nubbieless, What's the deal?

I'm confused.

Some of the N4's appear to have just a flat glass back. Some have "the nubbies" that look patterned (kinda).

Is one newer than the other? If so, about when did they change?

What's the deal?

The very first batch of Nexus 4s had a completely flat back panel which had some unwanted consequences. It caused the speaker to be muffled when on the back and made it extra prone to sliding and thus falling off surfaces to crack the rear glass panel. They added the nubs on the bottom end to lift it off the table to allow sound to exit as well as create some friction so that it would stay in place better.

I got a replacement under warranty 2 weeks ago. I'd forgot about the nipples, just checked & my replacement has them :)

At first I was pretty sure I wanted the nubbies for keeping the speaker up so it can breath. ;)

Then it dawned on me that Especially with a glass back, I'm likely going to have it in a case that protects the back, probably one of the clear ones so the nubbies won't hold the phone up off anything then.

I also haven't seen anywhere where changing the camera bezel was any Real positive change.

The only Real usage for the nubbies that I can see for me is to help nail down how old the N4 is I may be looking at. Seems the nubbiefied ones came out in April '13. All things being equal, I'd rather buy a newer used phone.

Too bad that even on Swappa no one lists the version they have. :(

And easily half of the pics are too crappy to tell from that.

I would like one of the newer ones though. :D

You can always ask the seller. If you (or they) boot the device into the bootloader mode (VOL_DOWN+POWER) it will explicitly state the HW Version (mine states "rev_10").
