Obama and Admin Knew About the Rollout Failure Well Before! (CBS News)

Any program with more than 100 lines of code has bugs, so this is as big a surprise as that water is wet.

Rukbat's right. Anyone trying to claim the rollout ought to have been seamless is either gobsmackingly naive or - more likely - extremely duplicitous.

When I first started in IT there was an apocryphal story that researchers had calculated that fully testing 1,000 'average' lines of code would take some ridiculous number of years. The point being, it's basically impossible to fully test any complex system.

Can't imagine why anybody is in the least bit surprised that a huge project involving many, very reluctant (to the point they spent tens or may 100s of $millions trying to kill the project politically) third parties is bound to have teething issues.

Obviously, the GOP/teabaggers are trying to whip up as much of a storm about the teething issues as possible. It's kinda dumb they're succeeding, but not nearly as dumb as the fact they could have been doing it weeks earlier instead of pointlessly bringing the govt to a (very costly) halt.

I find the hyper-liberal bent to be filled with a lot of vitriol and little substance. Take the term "*********". That's perjorative, offensive and perverse. It's my opinion that it should disallowed from this forum.

Well the President have appologized for the statement. Not really sure if it's any substance to it.

The term teabaggers have been around since 1773, now why would you want to disallow it here!

because its being used by some small minded people as a sexual connotation

which can be construed as an attempt to gaybash or cyberbully

the leader of the regime who frequently use the term in this manner is the same person who would fight to have you put in prison for these crimes

the use of the word is a hate crime...... therefore I have to agree with steven and wonder why the mods havent taken action on the word.... and the offenders

of course on the other hand is what the Demwits dont get.... the ********* is the one dipping his sack...... guess that makes the dems the recipients?

Edit: also dont you find it odd that a term like teabag would be around "since 1773" when the teabag wasnt invented til the 20th century?

An apology was indeed kinda squeezed out of Obama and I'm sure (I hope) he feels something for the people who lost their insurance or those whose premiums skyrocketed. IMO, a true apology would:

1) delay implementation of the individual mandate and penalties until those affected could access the site.

2) guarantee those who want their present insurance can keep their present insurance. Period?

:p

.. gaybash? Using a term for a heterosexual act

And in order to be accused of bullying, doesn't somebody need to be bullied? I don't recall anyone on here self-identifying as a ********* or the term being applied to any particular person.

Plus, as Saptech points out: it's a term with a long history of association with the historical event the Tea Party is named after. And I thought that history was one many Americans were proud of, at least up until it's recent associations with right wing radicalism.

the use of the word is a hate crime

Really

The vast majority of insults in English have sexual connotations: using them can't all be hate crimes. Here in the UK, many are used as forms of endearment.

of course on the other hand is what the Demwits dont get.... the ********* is the one dipping his sack...... guess that makes the dems the recipients?

Given it's usually a consensual act between willing partners, I'm guessing you actually mean the GOP there :D

Though, given the views of some right wing types on rape/sexual assault, maybe you're right :D

I didn't see any reports complaining about it.

Nonetheless, I happened to be in the neighborhood.

And regardless of how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, the intended use of the term in question is to be derisive by drawing up an image of a vulgarity.

I know it's quite popular in political arguments.

And it's supposed to be offensive, like so many derogatory terms, sexual or not.

However - we have language filters that not only help with politeness but also prevent us from coming up in searches for, and being associated with, internet pr0n.

For the good of the site, I see no reason that the term in question ought not be treated in the same fashion.

It's now blocked.

Politics had nothing to do with my decision.

If you would like to chat with me about the decision, please drop me a line.

If anyone wants to discuss it privately with the Mods, please pull up a chair at http://androidforums.com/private-chat-moderators/

If anyone doesn't agree and doesn't want to discuss it with me, please drop Phases a line, his decision shall be final.

Sorry to be that guy to some of you, please remember that my decision wasn't personal and it wasn't political.

I'm not declaring the tangent closed - if you want to continue debating the term here, be my guest.

Please don't creatively bypass the language filter should you all choose to continue the discussion.

It's more work for you and more work for admin if you do.

Aside from debating the term and barring an override by Phases, please find another perjorative expression.

I doubt that either side of the aisle will run out of rocks to throw in my lifetime. ;)

Thanks for working with me on this. :)

Why not just get rid of this politics section if you're going down this road? Obviously you've picked a winner. I'm out.

Curtains for the PCA over one word, when the decision was neither personal nor political?

I don't get it.

We filter a lot of words that I'm sure many here would love to use in the debates and no one has quit over those.

:dontknow:

Btw, I offered 3 paths to appeal or discuss this.

I'm not going to own doing bad or being heavy handed when I wasn't. :D

Thank you for your always even-handed hand, EarlyMon. You were always my hero. :p

Back to the topic:

I am hoping the indiv. mandate gets delayed, that folks can keep their plan and that penalties are rescinded for a time.

not me...... not even the tiniest little bit

since this thing was passed the regime has held their ground.... no compromise to benefit the public whatsoever...... only compromise to sway the voters... and we have been told we have to let it roll out to see all the glory

so I hope and pray the republicans do that... I believe they should get out of the way.... dont suggest NOR ALLOW any changes to the "law of the land"

let it roll out and truly hit home... allow people to suffer a little bit... after all everyone was told countless hundreds of times the very topic being discussed in this thread was a lie.... people war warned they would receive cancellation notices and lose their coverage.... only to be replaced by higher costing higher deductible coverage..... and the response was to call people names (see above) and convince the sheeple that the republicans were being idiots by suggesting obama was telling a lie

well here we are..... it took all this for folks to come around to realizing he was telling a lie.... how much more will it take before people realize the rest of the warnings were true as well...... until they realize the entire "law of the land" is going to make them suffer a little bit...... I suggest we find out and let them learn the lesson on their own

you dont learn by being coddled

so I believe the House should refuse to vote on any changes or delays to the "law of the land"...... let it show us its glory

sure there will be innocent people suffering (innocents being the ones who were opposed to this whole thing)...... but you cant bake a cake without breaking a few eggs

eventually all the lemmings will stop drinking the koolaid and go looking for water

Someone heavy-handed but consequences do work well as a teaching lesson. No?

I could not agree more. Furthermore, I enjoy seeing all of the apologists pointing out how opponents of the ACA, are somehow responsible for the negative publicity. As if those against the ACA are somehow contributing to the performance of the program and not stepping up to assist with fixing it.

Simply astounding!

It isn't all that surprising that the website is a failure...it's a huge, very ambitious project on so many levels and it is almost impossible to realistically test a software system that complex without just deploying it and hoping it works. In this case that's what they did...garbage in, garbage out. They should have found a way to release it incrementally...but probably chose not to do so because politics got in the way.

The same thing happened with a lot of first generation massive multiplayer online games when they came out years ago. Very difficult and expensive to fully test a system with that much of a load.

this is not what they did in this case..... in this case they did test it.... at least the 60% they wrote.... the other 40% still hasnt even been developed..... and those tests all failed........ they knew the system would not work well before they released it..... and in plenty of time to do something about it.... they decided the lesser of 2 evils (between incompetence and complete incompetence) was to release a failure

as for MMO/MMORPG games..... can you name a single one that allowed the creation of a screenname and then the entire backend crashed? and can you name one that didnt work 100% from the start that wasnt corrected in very short order? absolutely nothing worked on this website except creation of a screenname..... and itll be months if ever before its fixed...... nothing like the competent programmers who created MMO

The web site is the least of the ACA troubles.

so very true....

however.... its all old news..... the regime has given its sheeple something new to discuss now...... notice no media outlets are covering ACA anymore...... its all about how to spin the catering job we did in Iran

simple minded sheep are easily distracted.... guess they arent worried about their healthcare now
