Root odin FAIL!! when trying to downgrade

have a replacement S5 running 5.0 (smashed screen phone is successfully rooted), and trying to downgrade it to either 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 results in a FAIL!! from odin and thats the end. I worked with both phones tonight, the cracked screen S5 connected and communicated, loaded up, worked perfect going from 4.4.4 to 4.4.2 (towelrootable). The 5.0 S5 hits some kind of brick wall when attempting to downgrade to either .2 or .4. Any ideas on why this may be?

Thank you. Also, I have tried with both the S5 USB as well as an older android USB. Have tried Odin 3.9 and the newest version. Both result in a fail after hitting "start".

If your Galaxy S5 is either the AT&T model, G900A, or the Verizon model, G900V, that is running the latest firmware for either Android 5.0 or 5.1.1, then I am afraid that you can no longer downgrade to Android 4.4.4 or 4.4.2 to root your phone. Both AT&T and Verizon have made their firmwares un-rootable. See #1.6 of 41 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide.
