Odin Help

i have my phone going through a softbrick(stuck on samsung logo).
My questions are: what is a stock rom really in simplified terms like the model no(SM-J700M) and the country alone? If so when I flash on odin, I receive the following results:

<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..

<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/003> Can't open the serial(COM) port.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
If I am taking the wrong approach to resolve the softbrick please correct me.

Do you have the phone in download mode when connected to Odin?
Do you have Samsung USB drivers installed on your PC?

Samsung stock firmware is based on Product and CSC codes. Information easy to get if you can boot up normally.
In your situation, complete model number, country and carrier may be all the information you need.
Looking at what you posted for Odin, doesn't look like PC able to communicate with phone.
Should have a blue box in upper left of Odin with a active Com port number if connected.

If the Odin utility is having a problem linking up with your phone, a common issue is relative to the Windows driver or some other USB connectivity issue. In your computer's Device Manager are there any yellow flags in the USB section? If so you might need to reinstall the Samsung driver.
Also, if you're connecting your phone to a USB hub try using a port on your computer instead. Or try using a different cable.

You might also want to try using an older version of Odin as it's not very backwards compatible. If you're working with a Lollipop ROM for instance, try the 10.3.7 instead:

Sometimes bad connection to phone USB can cause problems. I was asking if USB port in good condition and cable connection is a tight fit, not loose.

Use a USB port in the back of the tower, front ports or hubs in general are a no go.

If that doesn't work, I'll have to go and vote for the cable being a issue. Looks to me like all things have been covered as well as Odin versions.
Alright I'll give it a try

Do you have Kies or Smart Switch installed on the same PC? Sometimes they interfere with Odin. Best to uninstall but keep the USB drivers and restart PC and try again.

In post #5, looks like flash started but failed. What firmware version did you try?
What is your complete model number, country and carrier?
