Root OE NFC Disable? Is it possible?

I am curious if the NFC feature can be permanently disabled by deleting a system app or maybe tweaking some code or kernel? (I'm no genius at this phone stuff... yet. I find it very addicting). I also noticed on the inside backplate there is the antenna with two contacts that connect the the back of the OE. Severing the contacts would decrease range but would it affect the phone radio or anything else like that?

Call me paranoid but I just don't like the idea of the NFC even though it is innovative. I feel it could be exploited by some savvy techno or something lol.

Thanks :help:

You can simply turn the NFC off so it isn't looking for anything.

No reason to permanately disable it.

What are you afraid it can do? It's honestly about as scary as a Bluetooth connection

I don't trust Bluetooth either ;P
I have NFC disabled in wireless and network settings but the NFC service continues to run and restarts immediately if killed.

You can freeze or backup/uninstall the NFC APKs with apps like Titanium Backup. You could also just delete them with a root file manager if your phone is rooted. That will prevent them from running.

Well, you shoukdnt be killing processes, but that's an issue to tackle another day I suppose ;)

The thing about NFC is, even if it was possible for someone to do something bad, you'd have to let them have your phone to do it. NFC really only works over a few inches of distance.

The pros of having it as an option far outweigh any miniscule chance of devious activity

You have nothing to worry about :)

i always turned it off in settings and never really had any issues with it. and turned off bluetooth also. and if anyone did hack my nfc via my cool bluetooth..well...they wouldnt gain very much...maybe steal my remix editon of bobby brown.... 'DoNT b3 Cru3L"... O_o lmao...

I've been freezing a lot of apps trying to get rid of bloat. I found that you can just freeze/remove the apps and everything will work EXCEPT that the market will force close. It took me a bit but I've narrowed it down to the NFC being frozen causeing the issue

Yeah happend to me as well, if you uninstall NFC apk the Android Market will force close each time you want to download an app. Well at least that's what happen with my phone.

Had some battery drain issues on my S2x (cm9) with the nfc sucking up 30% cpu time. Backed & uninstalled with TB. No issues with the Market.

maybe the market crash occurs because all NFC related apps are not uninstalled. I think there are 3 interconnected apps for NFC on this device..tag among them. remove all three and it may stop the market crash.

Yea I was removing all three. I ended up just freezing it and not dealing with it anymore. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the nfc data rather then the app itself.
