Off-Contract w/Sprint?

If I buy a Nexus 5 directly from Google can I take that and use it with Sprint off-contract?

Thanks.

If you already have sprint and your contract expired, yes you can buy a nexus 5 from the google play store and activate it. You have to call or visit a sprint store and ask for a uicc card (sim card). Keep in mind that 80% of the reps will have no idea what you are talking about and you might have to hang up, get transferred, or visit another store until you get a knowledgeable rep.

If you are talking about the sprint prepaid option I have no idea.

If you call Cs you will need to speak to sprint world wide to get one mailed and most stores should have one but I would definitely call and make sure before wasting time driving around

You can do this. I suggest connecting with Sprint international chat as the reps outside of the US are familiar with SIM cards. I did so. Took about 10 minutes of my time via chat. Paid $12 for overnight shipping. SIM was free. (Just internet search "sprint international chat" to find link).

Caution, there are MANY reports of Sprint being temporarily out of SIM cards.

One you get a SIM, insert and reboot. Go online and start the activation process. You might be transferred to chat (US) to finish the process. You will need the MEIN off the phone and the number off the card the SIM comes on (not the SIM itself).

Most folks don't have issues with activation. I did. I ended up having to go into a Sprint store to finalize activation.
