Official Samsung extended battery advice

I'm interested in getting an extended battery for my S3.

I don't want to get some big hulking thing or hope to get days and days of use. I just want to get a decent extension.

I was looking at the official Samsung offering of a 3000mAh battery and back plate.

Has anyone got one of these and if so how good are they?

Also although it doesn't add too much thickness I suspect my silicone case will no longer fit. Any cases that would fit?

I have has this one now for 8 days and have to say it really makes quite a difference. I won't get into the 'so many hours more' comparison as it really depends on your setup, usage, kernel and so on. ~suffice to say that I get considerably more time without recharging. The added bulk is not that bad either, although I believe you won't find a case to fit it, at least yet. However, I have a Kidigi docking station, which does take the added bulk. The SGS still looks good considering you have an additional 900mAh or almost 43% more power.

I am very happy.

Thanks for the info. Shame there is no case for it. I'm worried I would get the replacement back scratched without one.

There are leather flip cases out there that will fit. My husband and I both have an extended battery and use a leather case for them. You just have to make sure the measurements of the case are correct. I got one from Amazon that was advertised as a Galaxy SIII case but it wouldn't fit the length of the phone with or without the battery.

This is the one I got that does not fit the S3, but I'm sure you can find one that does. We got ours at a kiosk in the mall.

i was considering getting one but its not available here yet and from what all u guys have said it wont fit my stock case so im not so sure now.

I heard ZooGue is one of the only cases (so far) that will fit the new battery girth. I use a CaseMate Pop case and I'm hoping it will fit. I ordered my extended battery last week on a 3 - 4 business day shipping (mobilefun.com), it shipped mid week last week, and it's been in Chicago since Friday...I live in Massachusetts. As soon as USPS gets it to my house, I'll let everyone know if it fits. If it doesn't...it will be a bummer because I DO drop my phone on occasion...

Do you mean this case?

Galaxy SIII Cases

If so how do you know it will fit?

my zoogue got here a few days ago. it feels good. way less bulky than my incipio silicrylic but not quite as grippy. still, I like it. The black one also looks really good on the blue gs3.

I haven't tried it on the extended battery yet since mine is also still sitting in Chicago for some reason. I've heard mixed reviews on how well the zoogue fits with the battery. some say it fits perfectly and some say it slips off the side once in a while.

Just a note to help anyone with making an informed choice. Have looked at battery stats after full charge and leaving it running for:-

1d 10h 2m on battery
20% - Discharging
Screen 33% or 4h 59m

these are probably the most interesting stats.

P.S. should also mention that during that time WiFi and 3G have been on all the time and syncing enabled (5 accounts and services), screen set to manual at around 40% brightness; CPU clocked at 1.6GHz and GPU stock; Kernel - Boeffla v2.9, Governer - PegasusQ, I/O - CFQ

I got my battery in last night and let it totally drain and after a full charge last night, so far I'm impressed. I'll know at the end of the day if it's a huge difference but right away I see some improvement.

I tried my CaseMate case and as I thought...case didn't fit. I've contacted such companies like Seidio and CaseMate to see if they have any plans in the near future to create something for this. My only fear is that with the GS4 incoming, all their focuses is on that right now.

You really need to drain and recharge it at least 3 times before you will get the full battery life out of it. There could be a huge difference in how it lasts this time and how long it lasts after 3 drains/recharges. My extended battery went from 1 1/2 days to over 2 days between the first charge and the 4th drain/recharge. Pretty amazing, hope you will be happy with it :D

Well I had had this ZeroLemon Extended battery which comes with a decent case included and I get 2-3 days out of it. The extra weight does not bother me and it is easier to hold with this case anyway. Check it out-> Amazon.com: ZeroLemon Samsung Galaxy S III 7000mAh Extended Battery + Free Black Extended TPU Full Edge Protection Case(Compatible with Samsung Galaxy S III GT-i9300, AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 Samsung i747, Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 Samsung i535, T-mobi

This is really good info but the lack of cases is stopping me at the moment.

maybe I got lucky, but the zoogue case I got fits with the extended battery perfectly. I've had none of the problems that some people have had. even the little microphone holes on the top and bottom are not covered. all the buttons work, and none of the sides have slipped off at all in the 3 days I've had it on

definitely glad I got the battery and this case.

Only going from a 2100 stock battery to a 3000mah extended battery doesn't seem to be that great of a jump... Imo..... Unless the official Samsung extended battery is just that good?

I started the thread. I was looking at this battery as I specifically didn't want the bigger ones due to bulk. I thought this would be a good compromise.

Samsung Galaxy S III : Diztronic.com: Protective Cases for Mobile Phones

Diztronic is the only brand (so far) that I know of that is making cases especially for GS3 extended battery owners. Unfortunately they have no pics of what those cases look like and they won't be available for another month.

I'm going to hit my local Best Buy on the way home and maybe there's a holster that may work for it until then?

They look great but they are from the the US so I will get hammered over shipping costs!

FYI to anyone interested, with the stock battery (with moderate use) I'd take it off the charger at 6am and by 6pm it was at roughly 32 - 28% battery left. I'd charge it every night. So far, with this battery, I'm on my second FULL cycle and I pulled it off the charger Saturday night at 6pm. I haven't charged it since and I'm still at 28% health. This is with moderate use (Facebook, email, texting, calls etc), and my GPS is currently on as well as my Google Now services. So, overall, it's a great improvement. Not sure if my stock battery just wasn't conditioned properly, but I'm getting over 1 day's worth of battery extra with this one! Just waiting on Diztronics now! Hope this helps!

Thanks. Looking good.

with the standard battery, my phone died at this time every night.

now I go to bed with 40% to spare.

I really wish this battery was available a year ago.

Definetly looking into getting one of these, seems to be worth the tiny bit of thickness it adds.

I'm guessing the battery comes with NFC chip built-in like the standard GS3 battery?
