Help Offline GPS navigation help

Newbie
Just got my Optimus V two days ago but havn't bought the data/sms/voice plan so I don't have access to a data network yet. Cash is kinda super tight right now, I had just enought to get the phone. Can someone please help me figure out how to get GPS turn-by-turn navigation but with offline maps stored on the SD card? I've googled around and found people talking about RMaps, Andnav, Bigplanet, Mapdroyd, and some others. I've tried downloading all of those programs but I cant figure them out. I live around Nashville, TN if that helps. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums!
As far as I know, AndNav is not supported anymore and need data connection to calculate route. OsmAnd has just experimental offline routing. For other apps you've tried you need to download the maps by yourself and they don't support routing.
I use "NavDroyd" ($7), it's pretty basic but touting works. Maps come from OpenStreetMaps, so not all roads are covered (depends on OSM coverage).
I've also used "Sygic Aura" (but just in Europe, $100, there's also 7day try version), this works very well. "NDrive" - same price, same conclusions.
All programs need at least Wi-Fi connection to download maps (100s MB- GBs).

PS: Maybe "Navit" will suit your need if you're looking for cheap ($0) navigation. More OSM based map programs can be found here :
