Help OK Google and smart unlock problem

OK Google detection is really screwy on my phone. Half the time it doesn't respond for some reason.
Also I tried to set up smart unlock with voice and it doesn't respond either.

With the phone locked I say OK Google, and it does nothing. Is there something else supposed to say?
I've tried retraining the voice model and still nothing. Am I doing it wrong?

It's hit or miss with OK google.

Some things to check or try:

Make sure the box is checked "OK" - From Any Screen
Make sure the mic is not "blocked". Sometimes a case may cause issues.
Clear cache/data. Reboot. Retrain voice.
Uninstall and reinstall the app (or updates). Retrain voice.

These may or may not work but are some things I have tried and have worked sometimes and have not worked sometimes.

May I ask what phone you have and what Android version?

I have a Moto E second gen w/ LTE and its currently on Android 5.1

I actually got the trusted voice thing to work a couple times by turning off Google now. You know how it puts the Google app to the left of the home screen? Well that was annoying me cause it would open every time I'd swipe to the left from home, so I turned that app off and after that OK started working better.
Lol although it's still hit or miss
