Help OK Google/OK Moto conflict

Moondoggy

Newbie
When I first got my Turbo I discovered that if I set up the Moto voice recognition (i.e. OK Moto) that I could not use OK Goggle voice recognition from any screen. To resolve this I decided to turn off Moto and used Google instead and things were OK for a while. The other day however, I tried to use OK Google and it wouldn't work and I later determined that Moto had reset itself and once again was in conflict with Google. Once again, I turned off Moto and reset Google to work but this was frustrating to me to have to be resetting Moto every time the Moto App gets updated. I thought that I could remove Moto entirely by uninstalling it but it's an imbedded application.

So my question are as follows:

What's really better OK Google or OK Moto and why if it's OK Moto?
If Moto is better and I turn off OK Google, what, if anything will I loose?
How are other Turbo users handling this OK Google/OK Moto conflict if Moto resets itself with each updated?

I admit to being lost by your question and what ... I could not use OK Goggle voice recognition from any screen ... means.

What screens?

When .... Moto | Voice is enabled (I use OK Turbo as the phrase) ... what is it that you can't you do?

From what I recall, you can use any activation phase you want to trigger Moto and I just used OK Moto as an example as one can easily use OK Turbo instead.

The conflict is evident if you open up the Google App with Moto's voice turned on and you try to set OK Google up to work from any screen on your Turbo. You try and turn that option on and it tells you that you need to say "OK Google" 3 times to train it but when you attempt to do this it says the microphone is turned off and to restart your device but restarting does nothing. If, however, you go into Moto and turn off the voice command and go back into Google you can train Google just fine. My problem is that I trained it once and had it working and then Moto upgraded their app and turned voice back on which made OK Google fail. Hope this explains it better.

I have Moto | Voice on and in Google "Search from any screen" is off. It is also not trained.

Everything Io do EVERYWHERE is with "OK Turbo". If it is a known command it executes it. If it isn't then it goes to Google See.

Give it a try.

The Turbo is really designed to be more battery efficient with Moto Voice (what you call "OK Moto", though you can train it to any phrase you like) than it is with Google Search "OK Google" voice detection from any screen, and it works with the display powered off as well. Unless there is something about Moto Voice that doesn't work for you, I'd add to Thom's suggestion to try it instead.

Use the Moto app on the Turbo -- which is uniquely designed to take advantage of this Motorola hardware-based feature set. The Android simulation of this feature (using software for non-hardware-enabled phones) is not as good, and conflicts with the Moto version.

Took me a while to figure this out. I kinda wish that conflicting features were better explained somewhere, but eventually you beat your head against the wall enough to figure it out.

OK, besides the better use of battery efficiency are there things that Moto can do that OK Google can't or Moto does better? Also Thom said in his post that Moto uses Google for some stuff. Can you elaborate on this for me?

The recommendation from many people here is ... try the app that was custom designed for the Turbo and disable the Google app. Give it a try. I think you will be very pleased with the results.

This touch less capability was good in the Droid Maxx. It is much better in the Droid Turbo.

Yes, there are. Rather than most them all, you can say the launch phrase and then "help me" to get a list.

Here's moto's web page about moto voice. https://motorola-global-portal.cust...sion/L3RpbWUvMTQ0MTEwMjkwNi9zaWQvdEd4Zlptdm0=

And besides the special commands like "take a selfie" or "what's up", any other commands are passed on to Google search. So, moto voice has all the advantages of OK Google on any screen, plus it works with the display off, plus it has extra commands that OK Google does not have.

... and when you try it you will discover the most significant software enhancement to introduced by the Droid Turbo. If it doesn't k nock your socks off ... you aren't wearing socks.

Since the Turbo will ALWAYS be listening to the sound of your voice for the launch phrase ... to prevent misfiles ... choose a launch phrase that you would not otherwise use in conversation (I had a problem with "Droid Turbo" and no problem with "OK Turbo").

Ok, T, I'll bite...just what is the "the most significant software enhancement to introduced by the Droid Turbo"?

Btw, wearing cool socks and no shoes so this should work well...;-)

Touchless control using the Turbo-unique implementation from Motorola. It is always listening. It provide quite a wide hands-free access.

It can be described and described and described and the point will never get across. Then try it for a day. The impact will be self evident.

OK Turbo list commands
OK Turbo what's happening
OK Turbo open calendar
OK Turbo weather
OK Turbo what day is Christmas on this year
OK Turbo navigate home

Just got my Droid Turbo a few days ago and I
am using the Motto App vs. OK Google. The OK Google doesn't work all the time and with the Moto App I can say a command even when the screen is off. I would use the Moto App. It seems like you can do more with it than OK Google.

Correct, Budman. The Moto app ties into hardware features built into this Motorola phone, and functions best, in the most places. For example, the Turbo hardware is always listening for your launch phrase, even when locked.

The Google app setting is a software simulation of that feature designed for people who don't have Motorola phones. Since it doesn't have access to the phone's hardware features it can't do as much.

If you have Motorola hardware that permits it, always use this Motorola app for this feature. Turn off the feature on the Google app to avoid annoying conflicts.

One more thing; it seems to me that sometimes the Google version of this feature gets turned on by itself. Just now I was checking the settings to write this note, and it was set to On, which I don't recall doing. It's probably worth checking it from time to time. Maybe updates to the Google app monkey with the settings.

THANKS kEVIN!!!

I may be misinterpreting the OP's post a little bit, but even though I have Moto Voice activated, I can still say "OK Google" from one screen, Google Now. Moto Voice takes over everywhere but there.
