OK, How do you use this Droid?

I've had a Samsung, flip-up phone for 4 years now. I decided to pick up a Droid (on Black Friday). I have never texted anyone before. Even though I am fairly good with computers (yes, I build my own!) and technology in general, I really have not embraced the cell phone. So, I took the plunge and will be very thankful for the tips & help I am hoping to get from this forumn.
