Hi, I am a fairly new android user and so far I really love it. Right now I have the LG Optimus V phone since I am on VM service. Really love the plans on that service and that is why I switched from AT&T where I had the Motorolla android (don't remember which one it was). Anyway, I joined here mainly because I am not a techy and like to be able to have a site where I can go to and either ask questions or simply just look around and read posts that interest me about my phone. I noticed I have a lot to learn as I don't even know what "rooted" means and I hear that a lot, lol. Anyway, I do love being on the android system and am really enjoying my phone right now. :)

Welcome to Android Forums, Monika.

You can read about a good number of things about your phone in LG Optimus V - Android Forums where other VM users with the same phone discuss problems and solutions. Feel free to ask questions as they arise.

Rooting is simply gaining administrative access to the Android File system. Once you have those privileges, you can modify pretty much anything about the device, although you can pretty much screw it up, too, if you don't know what you are doing. The two most important things with rooting is to ALWAYS have a current complete backup, which is usually explained in the section on rooting, and to confirm that the modifications you want to make work with your specific phone model.

FWIW, rooting is not really necessary to use your phone to a good deal of it's potential.

Welcome to the forums. I hope you will find everything necessary to get the most from your device through these forums. Thanks for taking the time to say hello.
