okay google now feature

with my old moto x i was able to say OKAY GOOGLE NOW and have the phone do my bidding, even if the screen was asleep.

does the galaxy s5 do that?

i was in the tmobile store and in order for "okay google now" to respond/work, the screen had to be on.

is there a way to make the galaxy s5 respond to "okay google now" even if the screen is off?

(screen, not phone. obviously i know the phone has to be on.)

Active listening is a Motorola and Google exclusive feature. There are apps that kind of replicate the functionality, but the reviews are middling. For the time being, you have to be at the Touchwiz home screen to say, "OK Google". I have Nova, so I had to put a Voice Search shortcut on my home screen. Long pressing the home button will start Google Now.

S5 is supposed to have similar feature with always on voice command built in to Snapdragon chip saying 'Hi Galaxy'. Some variants seem to have it on but some (mine in particular SM-G900I) seem to have it disabled along with other things. Really annoying as it was one of the reasons I bought the S5 instead of the Moto X.

It was originally enabled on my S5 (Verizon Samsung SM-G900V), but for some unknown reason it just quit after a few days, along with the Google Search bar that originally was at the top of my home screen. Bummer. Right now I have the Google Now launcher as one of the apps at the bottom of the screens.
