Help Okay seriously... WHAT is wrong with my battery?

I'm new here as well. I can't make it through the day on a charge. I was told not to charge the phone overnight, just let it get full and then unplug it. Does that make any sense?
I did that last night and only lost 5%, i'm thinking that is OK. Does the phone take time to adjust? I know i've been playing with it, a lot, so i'm sure that doesn't help.

I also don't have a great LTE signal, another cause?
I'm on WiFi at home (work from home) so WiFi is on all day and I do have the issue with the orange downloading arrow always on (not sure if that contributes or not.

I'm trying Juice Defender Ultimate to see if that helps

1. Charging overnight is fine as there is a chip that cust off charging when it gets to 100%, those who say it damages battery are dinosaurs from the time NiCd/ NiMh batteries.
2. The phone takes time to adjust.
3. If you just got the phone, I bet you use it much more than you will be using it in a week or two. The new toy syndrome.
4. LTE is a big battery killer in general and if you have poor signal it will kill battery really fast. If I were you I would use some kind of profiling app to turn 4G off when there is no 4G isgnal but that may be a problem as Android 4+ does not allow direct access to network mode selection.
5. If I were I would not waste money on Juice Defender and buy Tasker from the beginning. It is an awesome tool and even though takes time to learn, once you know more about it you see it has unilimited possibilities and can replace tens of other apps.
6.WiFi has to check for connectivity and sync from time to time and you should not worry about it at all.

Went to bed last night FULLY charged

Wifi - Off
Mobile data - Off
Sync - Off
Sound - Mute
Bluetooth - Always off
GPS - Always off
Powersaving - Always ON

-Cleared all running apps using the home button > remove all apps thing
-Went into task manager to find that there weren't any applications appearing
-Had confidence that I would wake up to a battery no worse than 95%

And the result..... 4%!

Seriously.... how is it possible? Is there really an app running that is causing THAT much of a drain? Because from the pic is shows a little activity during the night but THAT much?

And what app is possibly causing this if it is an app? I've messed around in app settings and turned things off. But most importantly, I was under the impression that with Sync AND Wi-Fi off, how can apps be running on their own? Enough is enough. I see countless threads of battery problems. I shouldn't have to be spending an entire month fixing the problem that I shouldn't have had in the first place.

I've been a lifelong user of iPhones and this is my first Android and I really like the phone. But this is ridiculous already...

you bought the phone brand new? Because Batteries do go bad, you are running on a stock rom too, and closed everything out, you could possibly attempt buying a cheap NEw battery, lol when i got my phone i bought a new one for 11$% online and it loves life. theres no telling how old the stock ones are.

You should definitely call up Samsung, could be a bad battery or bad phone. I last 2 days with moderate use.

How's your service in the area? If the phone struggles to keep a connection, that could be the issue.

But either way, I'm sorry your having trouble on your first Android :(

The long grey bar under Mobile Network Signal indicates you may not have had any signal. This would drain a battery very fast.

Notice how the graph goes up once the bar turns green? Indicating you again regained a signal.

have a chat with samsung see what they can do, and figure out your signal capabilities the phone will fight tooth and nail for that little wave of data X3
if you can try to connect to wifi as much as possible so there can be a constant and the phone can relax.

That is very unsual, especially given the fact that nothing is showing up in battery stats. However, there is a very large chunk (about an hours worth) of solid "awake" time that I'm seeing... It looks like something woke the phone up and pegged the CPU for an hour. It might have been a rogue app, or something syncing/checking for data when there was no connection.

I would probably do a factory restore and be done with it.

I ran one of the battery apps the night before last (where I had a complete drain down to 5%) with all the same stats under settings. I was under 4-5 bars the entire night. So that can't be it.

And the only reason the graph goes up there is because that is when I woke up in the morning and plugged it in the charger. Thanks though but I doubt that's the cause considering connectivity issues is never a problem for me. I always get great reception.

I wasn't very clear on my post. Yes, the graph going up indicates it being put on the charger. I was mentioning where the grey bar turns green indicating it regained signal.

All I read from everyone on 4g being a huge battery sucker ....

I find false.. weak signal being anything 3g , 4g if its weak then yes it kills battery

I'm at a location now with 4g , been at this location for 5 hours and I am only down 5% battery, 4200 ma battery.

I find this great for any g

Maybe older phones had some 4g battery problem but my verizon siii is great.

I find if anything 3g sucks more battery.

Weak signal is the main sucker.

Would you care to list any other apps you downloaded? Or you can try uninstalling apps one by one and see if it gets better. I'm assuming you rebooted? Take the battery out and put it back in?

You can also try disabling some of the Samsung apps that came pre-installed.

There are some apps you can download to see what's eating your battery.

Doesn't it turn grey when there is no mobile data on? When i turn off mobile data, that bar goes to grey even when I have cell reception to receive calls.

The list you refer to is not a list of running apps, rather a list of recent apps. Clearing it will do you no good.

Turning off all that stuff makes little difference - the power they consume when the GS3 is idle is trivial.

Understand what makes your phone use power. Check out this thread:

Download one of the monitor apps linked in the first post, along with Watchdog Lite (monitors what apps are using your cpu). Until you get more information, trying to help is a waste of time as it's all guessing games without the proper information.

Apps that I have personally downloaded:

FaceBook
Bank of America
ScoreCenter
Shazam
Fantasy Football (ESPN)
