Old but still learning

Lurker
I am probably older than most people out there, in my late 60's and I have just bought a LG E610 and love it. My wife will change her phone when I have learnt how to use mine. We used Motorola raz phones before we decided to get up to date, but do not understand many of the terms used, such as tags and polls etc. We haven't learnt to use all the wonderful features yet, but we will get there, hopefully with the forums help. We are dissapointed with the calendar as it will not play mp3's as an alarm for events.

Hello and welcome, malysol. :hello: It's good to have you here at Android Forums.

First, you may find the links in my signature line (below the friendly "Don't Panic") helpful.

Second, here's the section at AF dedicated to your phone. - http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus-l5/ - It looks like it's a little slow in there, so if you're not finding the info or answers you seek, you can post your questions in our general Android section here: http://androidforums.com/android-lounge/

Lastly, to make an MP3 available as a notification sound (I think that should work for the calendar), try this: Make a new folder on your SD Card called "notifications" (leave out the quotes...) Now just copy any MP3s into that folder and that should do it. You may need to reboot your phone to re-scan the SD Card. Also, the same can be done for "ringtones" and "alarms".

I hope that helps, and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask. I hope you'll enjoy your time here at AF! :)

Yes that worked after a fashion, in as much as I can now have a real tune, but only the one as there is no flexibility on the calendar other than the one set notification. I have searched the internet for calendar apps but can't find one that even mentions alerts. Are you aware of any or should I ask the forum?

p.s. Thank you for replying and the help offered so far as we are both entering a new world here.

Malysol, don't feel alone age-wise: I was no Spring chicken myself when this dog learned new Android tricks. It's NEVER too late to learn new things... and we're here to help you master your Android devices! It's great to have you here: and don't hesitate to ask any questions :)

Sorry about that - I thought the calendar used the same notifications. I haven't used any other calendar apps, so I can't help you much there. So yes, feel free to ask away. The best place to ask about that is our applications section, here:
