Help Old Galaxy S Firmware USB Option

My friend has the old firmware on his Galaxy S and when he connects it to the USB it starts in media player mode. I can't for the life of me find the option to change this to KIES or Mass Storage. Can anyone remember if the option even existed on the older firmware? I'm using 2.2 and it's in my Wireless and Network menu.

Ask on connection is best. I thought it was the same in eclair.
