old question that I could never resolve

I have had this problem since the days of gingerbread, now I am using ICS. anytime I make a call or email someone it puts it in my contacts. after some time you can imagine it gets cluttered. to this day I have never been able to find a clear direction on how to stop this horrible function. any ideas?

Is this on the Samsung Infuse you have listed in your profile, or a different device. Also, is this a Custom Rom, or Stock Rom?

You can easily remove any contact with a long-press of the target contact and selection of "delete" in the popup menu.

Try turning off auto sync in the settings page and see if that somehow helps.
