Hello mrscalia. I've found that those docks, on most any device, can be touchy.
All it takes is one bent, misaligned or dirty pin on the dock receptacle or the plug-in piece on the cord to cause some malfunction or unreliability (clock/alarm stops working, display freezes, won't charge, etc).
I'd take a good look at both ends in good light to check for anything not normal. Sometimes a very careful adjustment can be made. But the first thing I'd do is swab both pieces with alcohol on a cotton swab, let dry then test it for a few hours of charging.
If you see something bent off center or broken, well, maybe it's time to head to the store for a new one, unless you want to take a chance with a pin or something to try to fix what you might find bent, etc.
