One-Tap Speed Dial

Not sure how many of you knew about this already, but previously I was using an app for this because I never realized this feature existed by default (and for some reason, Googling turned up nothing). In any case, if you want a shortcut on one of your homescreens that initiates a call with a specific contact, it's extremely simple to set up and it's already built-in with Android:

1. Long-press on any homescreen.
2. Tap on "Shortcut(s)."
3. Tap on Direct Dial.
4. Select your desired contact from the list.
5. BAM! You now have a one-tap shortcut on your homescreen to speed-dial the person you specified.

You can also follow the same steps, choosing Direct Message, and it will open your text messaging app ready for you to send a text to the person.
