One way G-mail syncing

My RAZR is syncing my Google contacts from the computer to the phone no problem. The changes I make to contacts on the big screen are in the phone in just seconds, but the changes I make to contacts in the phone aren't going up to the computer.
I read the thread about clearing the phone data but if I do that, I lose most of the updated contacts since I used the phone more than the computer these days.
Any thoughts?

Try clearing your cache. Then reset your phone maybe that should work.

That's the solution I had read in other posts but I think those folks couldn't get the phone to sync in either direction. I really wanted to avoid that because the greater part of my contacts were in the phone. I think I learned something about the contacts lists since I asked my question.

I took the phone in and with the contacts open on both it and the computer started playing with the contact details and watched as it changed only the details. It took some name changing a joining to get things mostly right but I'm getting the hang of it. I think the sync is going on ok, just selectively.

As far as resetting this phone, the only way is a complete dump. No detachable battery.

well, if you choose that method to remember to back up your contacts. Also, just in case, go to accounts & sync and try there.
