one-x, i made a decision

Hello

I finally decided to sort my upgrade and with a fair deal from t-mobile (uk) went for the one-x, picked up from bluewater store this evening.

Am gingerly charging the phone now, have inserted the micro sim. a brief turn on showed it was android 4.03 and build .26 but according to t mobile forums the update should be available now for .28
I'm almost scared to touch it, it looks so delicate and slim!

I have come from a htc desire which i had for over 2 years. a few probs on the way with the random restarts but was good till last weekend.
i know i will miss the optical tracker and my 4 buttons. but the one-x seems the only decent choice. considered nokia lumina..i phone..samsung...
the mrs will be getting her one-s in a few days too, so will be interesting to compare the phones against each other. (from a wildfire)

Will apps i paid for be available from the market again?

Does it have the normal phone type keypad?

guess i will find out soon enough... am a bit anxious how the battery life will work out too, esp as i am a mobile engineer so not exactly always plugged in. i'm used to a case as well, perhaps a screen protector this time. my desire got a few scratches when it was new.

any advice for charging regime? cases? car chargers? special tips i might not have seen/ read?

thanks in advance,

Phil M

Paid apps will be available to install as they are linked to your Google account.

As for a charging regime, I charge mines through the night but I have noticed the standby time on the phone is very good, much much better than the desire.

I have battered the phone a bit today, google music, navigation, BBC news, Phandroid app, Currents, Play Store, emails, calls, texts, Temple Run... I could go on. 10hrs 30 mins and I still have 50% left.

Battery seems very good considering reviews slated it a bit. I would say the stand by times are pretty great to be honest, especially compared to my experience with the Desire.

I lost only 3% charge last night (around 11pm until 8am) as it wasn't on charge through the night. I would never have lost such a little amount with the Desire.

As for T-Mob, I have my One X with them and it updated the firmware as soon as I turned it on so you should get it soon enough.

Hey Phil, welcome to AF! :)

If you link the phone to the same gmail account your Desire was linked to, you'll have access to your paid apps.

Yes, it does, you can select phone/compact from the Language and Keyboard menu and you'll be able to use the older T9 style keypad.

For the first charge, give it 6-8 hours or so, then let it discharge completely, then recharge fully again. Then you're free to charge as and when you need it. Battery life gets better after the first few charge/discharges, I class myself as a medium user and I'll easily get 30 hours out of it.

As for case/screen protector, I rock both. There are some decent cases discussed here and screen protectors are ten a penny. I think I picked up a packet of 10 Kolay protectors on Amazon.co.uk for about

well, got the green light..

switched on, and it has started it's service update..here we go!:D

i have accessed some backed up files from my desires memory card, (which is connected to my netbook in an sd adapter). important info was wireless key!:p

interesting the pc recognised the phone even when it was powered down.

i know there is no memory slot in phone, but i can't see it being much of a problem for me as it will connect to pc easy enough to move files around. i don't exactly have tons of films and stuff on separate cards.

few minutes later........
phone restarted, updated to: 1.28.110.7.

let the personalisation commence!:cool:

so far....
impressed!
a bit like a grown up desise. a few things to get the hang of.

shame about the app button bang in bottom of screen, but i guess being a phone is the poor relation nowadays.

batt is at 52% after apx 2hr 20mins of fiddling about. sleep time now i think!

i feel i made the right choice (so far) it doesn't seem as big as i feared.
thanks
phil

missing my optical tracker when trying to edit the text just now. hmm......
