Lurker
One of the people I regularly text is not getting my messages. I get messages from her, but mine are not getting through to her.
Oddly, my wife is having the same problem on her phone with the same person -
getting messages, but not being able to send to this specific person.
I deleted the contact and re-entered the name and number on both phones yesterday afternoon around 5-ish and texted a message. didn't hear back, but at 6:22 this morning my text notification sounded and my own message had come back, looking like a new message from my friend. So far, nothing back on the other phone (Moto G6)

Have you spoken to the other person? It's likely that the problem is with their phone, their account or their service. The fact that both of your phones are affected really only leaves that possibility, you both having the number wrong (try phoning them instead?), or a problem with your service provider handing over messages to theirs. I can't think of a lot else.

(If you were iPhone owners and the other person used to be there would be one other possibility, but that doesn't seem to apply here).

I was on my landline with her as we tried to text back and forth. as a test.
She does use an iphone but this is a new problem starting last Monday.
We verified the phone number, I texted, on both phones here, she didn't get it. She texted both of us and it came through fine. on both phones.
I think her service is att; we have TracFone which is using a Verizon tower in our area.

it still sounds like it is on her end and not you. i have had trouble with iphones in the past not getting my text messages. i have no clue when it comes to iphones, but i think there is a setting or something that helps getting messages from an android phone to an iphone, but i do not know what that is.

i know there are a bunch of folks here who might be able to help.

Friend's iphone stopped receiving text messages from me on 9/25/19 - the same day there was an update on my phone.

If these are just SMS an update should make no difference: SMS is a basic standard, so you'd think that if they broke it it would be broken for all recipients. Though it's core to GSM-based networks like ATT (it was invented as part of the GSM standard), more of an addition to CDMA-based networks like Verizon.

You could try speaking to your provider, especially if the phone was bought through them (so any update would have been signed-off by them).

If it's MMS, or anything else (RCS for example) that's a different matter.

Just to be sure, what message app are you using? If it's the stock one, try an alternative (e.g. Textra): it should make no difference to SMS, but if an update messed-up something in the stock message app (as opposed to the underlying service) this would bypass it.

Thanks for all the info, unfortunately I don't understand any of it except the part about trying a different app. II'm 80 and new to mobile phones, but I will try a different messaging app.
Will I still be able to use my notification sound, I wonder.
Again, thanks for helping .
I joined up, so why am I a designated "lurker" ?

The last is easy: the titles depend on how many posts you've made. Someone who has joined but made few posts gets the title "lurker", even if strictly a lurker, by internet convention, is someone who has never posted. Complain to @Rob (owner) if you think this in unfair or not funny ;).

If a different app works then yes, you'll be able to use your own notification sound. You'd have to set it again within that app though. I'm personally hoping that a simple reboot of the phone will fix it.

The lurker moniker doesn't last long if you are active. Welcome to AF by the way. It's a rare occasion that someone on these forums is my senior. Thank you Sir or Ma'am for joining and I hope that you enjoy these forums.

Thank you.
I may not be able to be all that active, due to knowing so little about mobile phones that I don't even know what I don't know.
I shall simply embrace the designation and enjoy learning from those who do.
