Open GL ES 2.0

So I read somewhere that the Hero will be getting Open GL ES 2.0 with the Android 2.1 update. What can I expect from this? Does it mean we can get more out of the Hero's CPU/GPU? How much faster will 3d games be? i.e. Raging Thunder 2, etc.?

but i guess its irrelevant since the 2.1 update is delayed for another 2 months.. sigh.. im losing hope on HTC..
