Help Opening apps already on SD card

Then they are not properly installed.
Apps don't actually get installed on the SD card, only some of their data files.

No; these were installed and working on my previous phone. I made sure they were on my SD card before I switched to my new LG Tribute.

Sure they got to be re-installed from the original APKs, or a backup(from the original phone) and restore(to the new phone) of the installed apps made using Titanium(root required) or Helium(if the device is not rooted). Is that what you did?

If it's just app data files on the SD, they won't run like that.

It's not just the app data didn't move. The phone doesn't know anything about any apps that were on the sd card.

fancvs, what happens when you install an app "on the sd" is that you install the app on the phone, then move part of the installed app (the apk and library components only) to a secure directory on the card. The rest of the app, as well as the app's data, remain on the phone. So if you just put the card in a different phone new phone doesn't know anything about the app, fragments of which are on the card: the app was never installed on that phone, so it won't be looking for parts of it on the card.

As the others have said, if you make a backup you can restore that on the new phone, or you can reinstall from the Store.

OK; I tried to delete the orphan files on the SD card from the apps that used to be on my older phone, and I tried to back up those apps that are on my new phone with Titanium, but I ran out of space before the apps were backed up, because they were being backed up on my internal memory, and not on the SD card.

You have not supplied any useful information.
Phone model?
Android Version?
Output of Storage Truth ?

I'm not sure why you would backup the apps to the phones internal memory as they already reside there. If your device failed you effectively have no backup! You should backup to your PC

The phone is an LG Tribute; I presume that the Android Version is KitKat, because of the problems I'm having with the SD card. I don't know what would show me the truth about the phone's storage. I wasn't using any PC when I was backing up the apps, and I had no idea that it would back up in the internal memory.

Don't presume: Look it up in Settings->About Phone.
Install and run "Storage Truth". Post results here.

You can choose the backup location in Titanium: in Titanium's Settings choose Preferences then Backup Location. It may have defaulted to /sdcard (i.e. the emulated sd card, internal storage) because all devices have that, while not all have a removable card.

Just go to the play store, or wherever you happen to get your apps from and re-download the apps you want/need.

Seems like it would save you a whole lot of time.

I had to use the Force2SD app to get enough space for Storage Truth, but for now it seems I have enough space; maybe Force2SD actually works.

Storage Truth says I have 349.91 M free in /system, and 193.85 M free in /data, but when I try to load or to update any of several apps, I'm told I don't have enough room; what is the truth?

193.85M is not enough free space for /data.
The system needs workspace during app install. It will refuse to install apps when /data free space is too low.
You probably need 200M plus the size of the App you are trying to install.

^^^ what glc said is exactly right. Apps are installed in /data and with only 193MB free you are effectively out of space. The system needs a minimum amount of free space for operation or it becomes unstable.

You need to make room. You're just gonna have to make some decisions.

Clearing cache files is not a solution. It's the Fool's gold of making space. Fool's gold is not real gold and space made by clearing caches is not real space. It will only make space temporarily since cache files will rebuild over time. Also, while clearing cache files won't hurt anything, they're there to speed up operation and should be left alone.

These are things that can help make significant additional space:

I think with every fairly recent email app I've ever seen, you can set limit on how much email is synced (downloaded) to the phone, either by date received or number of emails. Check this to see if it keeps email from certain people too long or an excessive number of emails.

To make space you can also:
Delete texts. If you have a LOT of texts, especially MMS, saved on the phone this can help.
Delete or move photos, videos, documents, etc out of internal storage to SD, cloud storage or a computer.
Uninstall app updates.
Uninstall apps you have downloaded and installed. This is where you will have to decide what goes and what stays.

Also, in Apps Manager, disable builtin apps you don't use. This should un-install any updates, and keep them from re-updating.

I see how to uninstall apps, or to move apps to the SD card; Force2SD now shows only 2 apps not on the SD card, Force2SD itself, at 615 kB, and Nova Launcher, which can't be moved, at 5.8 MB. I already uninstalled many built-in apps, but I don't see how to move or to delete files that aren't apps.

Uninstalling builtin apps will not give you more root to install apps.
Builtin apps are in /system and user apps and updates are in /data. They are in separate storage.
Did you uninstall the updates to disabled/deleted builtins?

Go into Apps Manager from settings.
select the Downloaded tab.
These are all user apps and updates.
Delete the unneeded updates.
