opening jpeg attachments from gmail

How do I open JPEGs attached to gmail messages? When I try to open them I get a message box saying "no app can open this attachment for viewing". I am not very tech savy so any response would have to be spelled out very simply...thank you

First...are you using the gmail app or some other app?

Second...since I don't use gmail on my phone/tablet, my version may not be up-to-date.

Third...on both my Samsung Tab 2, and LG phone, the gmail app worked the same. I viewed the message. I tapped the jpg file. A small version (thumbnail) appeared. I touched the thumbnail (that may not have been necessary), and after a bit a larger version appeared.

All pretty straight forward.

Given the message that you received, I wonder if the file ends in "jpg" or "jpeg" or something else. My test used a file ending in "jpg".

If it ends in "jpeg", try saving the file, then renaming the file to "jpg".
