Opera Unite + Droid = Files Access Anywhere!

Finally found an easy way to have access to files on my PC from my Droid with Opera's latest release that adds the Unite features. While Opera is running, you can simply choose a folder on your PC to share and then access is from any browser. Works great on the Droid browser! So now I have access to my files anywhere I roam without uploading to off-site hosting or complicated networking setup. Thought I would pass it along.

Hmm, I'm gonna have to stop using Chrome to do this... guess I'll give it a try and see if its worth it.

Gave it a try... looks good tbh! One detail the TC glossed over - there are many "apps" in the Opera Unite suite:

- File Sharing: just what it sounds like. File host!
- Photo Sharing: pic-oriented file host with thumbnails!
- Fridge: jot down notes (meh)
- Media Player: stream music from the host
- Messenger: chat with other My Opera users (meh)
- Web Server: host a website from your PC

- Just found out - there's more apps you can add to it (f.e. file uploader)

Not to mention, you can have multiple "profiles" setup, so you can access your home computer, laptop, etc... gotta say, even with 2 bad apps those other 4 are amazing. I gotta see how well this works when the PC is sleeping.

Now, to make this work well on the Droid, I'd probably want to create some home screen shortcuts linking directly to the apps. I'm a bit skeptical of the streaming music; at least until a clever developer creates an app for it. Not sure how I feel about having to keep my browser open to listen to music.

Maybe I'm dense, but I get to the URL for my shared files, am prompted for my password, see the file sharing app running. When I try to visit, I get the password loop all over again. I looked to verify that I'm sharing files, and my welcome message shows up.

Any ideas? Don't want to pay for premium support, and their help files are an oxymoron.

i like the idea, but i wish it was browser agnostic. i guess that would defeat the purpose from opera's pov. also, i'm not thrilled with the idea of running a webserver on my pc.

Sharing files via Opera just scares the dickens outta me.. You realize that if you have XP you can setup an incoming VPN connection right ? Just forward the ports on your router, setup vpn on your droid, and run ES File Explorer (EStrongs) on your droid .. Setting up a dyndns account on your router would probably help as well..

Just my $0.02..

yes, but this is much easier and more flexible. i don't really see myself using this a lot since i can remote in anyway, and there's dropbox, etc. but if i were one to listen to music on my droid (which i'm not), this is a cool way to stream the music on your home pc to your droid.
