Optimus M Update Available

I've posted a new thread on LG Forums, stating that a new SW Version is available. It is version MS690ZV7, if your's is ZV6 do the update. It's still Android Version 2.2.2, but the "Software Version" has changed. It's definitely helped my phone.

On the LG Forum there was a lot of negative stuff and mention of an upcoming maintenance update, but nothing of any certainty until now.

Just to clarify, on your phone, press the menu button, select "Settings", go to "About Phone"(very bottom of page), once you select "About Phone", scroll and look for "SW Version", if yours ends with ZV6, you need the update.

You'll need the LG Mobile Update Utility which can be found here:

Follow the instructions and load all the drivers. There are 3 drivers that load on your computer. After you have them loaded, you connect the phone via USB and it updates. Mine took about an hour. The software download is just over 125mb.

I originally posted this under "Possible Fixes for Freezing/Rebooting Issue". benalmighty suggested posting it as a new topic because of its potential importance to Optimus M users that were experiencing the negative issues.

I see now that I should have put Freezing/Reboot in the title. This was meant to inform frustrated Optimus owners. It was not meant to be a "pissing match" over the pros and cons of rooting or ROM flashing. Some of those owners would be content just to have a stable, stock phone.

So I took your word and just updated it, yeah you're right about the ZV7 part. I hope it really helps. Thanks. I'll try to post anything that might happen.

Edit: I did notice though, that when looking at the phone info it shows the Kernel version: 2.6.32.9, lge@android-build #2, Wed Nov 2 04:11:27 KST 2011. So this is a new kernel made about a month ago. Also, LG included a Rhapsody app. Weird.
 
Actually when i first tried the update it messed up, and when I tried the update everything went right and the phone ran though I had no signal. So i looked up the PRL and it said 6553, I was like :confused: I then installed the 3023 plr cause I know that one was good for me.

Anyways, the update has been running solid now since my last post. No freezing or reboots. I haven't really been using it too much, though. I haven't set up my Google account and i don't have Wi-Fi right now. I'll test it more tomorrow when I can get all that set up.
 
Tried this for a full 14 hours today. Isn't rootable with anything I tried. It did fix my force close and reboot problems though, even though the newer OM's don't seem to suffer from this. (My experience.)

Tried this on one OM (2.2.2 originally) and it seems to be doing fine. Also, doesn't seem to have CIQ files that I can find.

I just tried the superoneclick and I wasn't able to root it. At times it would show "waiting for device", the program would go unresponsive, or it would work until the reboot then just stop. I even tried Zerg Rush, but that did the same too.
I'm sure there is a way to root this version, and I'll be looking for it.

Same happened to me many times. I'm trying GingerBreak where as I read others had success rooting 2.2.2 with it. Though, its been going on for like 30mins now, unlike 2.2.1 would root in like 5 minutes. I'm beginning to doubt GB's ability. Though, i'm sure this can be rooted eventually.
 
What's the point of updating to 2.2.2? I load a custom rom and never get reboot issues. Don't got bloatware on my phone so eh, 2.2.2 is somewhat my last resort. Until it get's rooted I'll stay with my CM7 rom :D

The issues seem to have been caused by different reasons. Flashing a rom never help prevent the rebooting. I tried all of the CM7, The sense, and even Kelso's rom to stop the reboots. But so far this update has helped the most. I haven't even had one force close. I would appreciate root, but I'd rather have the annoying metroware than a phone that reboots and freezes constantly and unexpectedly. :rolleyes:

True, the OM's were built differently and differently enough to promote LG to release two different maintenance updates (and I doubt this is the last, though I hope this permanently fixes my problem) to secure stability. Oh, also I meant flashing a rom never helped for me, I didn't mean everyone. I wish it did help me so I could be using a CM7 now, but even if I managed to root this version then flash a rom, the problems would come back. I'm convinced it had a lot to do with the kernel, that I'm sure it would get flashed over, unless there was a way to extract it and flash it over a Cyanmod. That's something i should look into. O.o well I'd have to find a way to root it first.

Just updated my M690 which was previously rooted and now it's stuck on the Android load screen. I tried waiting (about 30 minutes) as well as taking out the battery but it won't fully turn on, i'm clueless...

This happened to me twice, but I found out mine was caused by my internet connection randomly dropping out. So I never installed the complete update, and thus the phone bootlooped. If you can, continue to try the update. If the software thinks your phone has the newest update, you might have to downgrade back to what you were to update again and then try the update again. Also, if you have a wired connection, that would be preferred and do not allow the computer to fall asleep during the downloading process.

I installed this on my wife's phone without issues... so far no reboots (after half day) but I'll post back if everything goes just as well after some time

hi. i just updated my phone but it is stuck on the boot screen, it's been like 10 minutes and it doesn't do anything! i had the sense rom by joneidy installed. Any ideas of what could be happening???
 
i used this link to update my girls stock om with fc issues ans since shes had no problems, with fc or re booting. thanks.

Edit; its been about 5 days now without issues.
 
We really need to push LG to release the source code for this particular version, they have an obligation to since it's GPL'd software. My gut tells me the constant lockups followed by a reboot are due to a faulty kernel that doesn't play well with a certain batch of OMs, I happen to be one of the unlucky ones. They apparently fixed the bug in this latest update, so far no kernel panics.

I would really love to compile that kernel into a Cyanogenmod ROM.

That's what I'm saying. :rolleyes: But I personally have no idea how to do that. Lol. Oh also, on the SuperOneClick page, there is a post stating that they are releasing an update soon particularly for the newly updated LG devices, the post is from yesterday. So that's good.
