Help Optimus S GPS & magnetometer doesn't work sometimes

Sometimes the GPS & magnetometer on my LG Optimus S don't work (outdoors with a clear-sky view and no tall buildings with GPS turned on in the settings). Usually the GPS and magnetometer work fine. but sometimes navigation apps like Google Navigation or TeleNav say "searching for GPS", and compass/GPS apps (like Ulysee Gizmos or GPS Test) show no available satellites, and the compass won't work (even though GPS is turned on, I'm standing outside holding it in the palm of my hand with a clear-sky view). The GPS indicator in the status bar comes on, but it won't lock onto the GPS satellites. I actually returned my first LG Optimus S because it sometimes exhibited that behavior. But it does the same thing on the replacement model. In fact, my family has 4 of Optimus S's and they all exhibit this behavior. I've tried powering off and even pulling the battery. Anybody else having this problem? Does anybody know why or what I can do to solve it?

I had the same problem and it turned out that I had GPS setting to "only E911." Change that setting and GPS works just fine.

Thanks but I have always had "Location On" and GPS satellites on. (Not E911 only.) And like I said, it usually works.

Have you tried moving around your phone in a figure 8 pattern a few times? This resets the accelerometer for the issue with navagation and compass. Not sure about the GPS thing though.

The same thing happened again (to my wife's phone this time) and I tried the figure-8 thing. It didn't work. But thanks.

Mine does the same thing. I usually have to reboot the phone and it'll work for another day or so.

Funny thing is that it had this problem at first, worked consistently for about 1 1/2 months, then started acting up again. No idea what I installed that did this.
