Root Original ROM

Stuffe

Lurker
I just got my Nexus one off ebay. The sole pupose of getting a google branded phone was that I want to always be able to update android. But this phone is unlocked and has somekind of modded android 2.1 on it. I tied to use this guide: AndroidSPIN Guide: Unrooting your Nexus One. It’s like it never happened, almost!

But I got stuck at step 5.
When I type: "adb reboot bootloader" it says: "Device not found".
My best guess is that the drivers on my computer dont work somehow (running 32bit win7). But I am a total noob, so I dont know. Please PLEASE dont tell me I its the mod so that I will never be able to get the original android on it and update. I really hope someone can help.

Sounds like you either don't have the drivers, or don't have USB debugging installed.

The drivers are part of the Android SDK, and USB debugging is under Settings => Applications => Developer

If you wont want to faf about with that, download the FRG83 system image from HTC - Developer Center rename it to passimg.zip and copy it to the root of your SD card. Turn the phone off, hold Vol- and turn it on again, the phone will boot into HBOOT, detect the file and ask if you wish to install it. Pick yes and your phone will be back to stock in a minute or so.

ok, got that file renamed and put in the root of sdcard. HBOOT says it is laoding it and when its done it checks it, but then it goes into the menu like nothing had happened. Did something go wrong or am I missing something?

Yes it worked :)
I think the problem was the first rom isnt working.
I downloaded it twice, so its not just corrupted.
Anyway I have 2.2.1 now so im happy!
Thanks alot Rusty!

The first ROM might not be suitable for passimg use, but it is good for fastboot if you have an unlocked bootloader.
