Hi All,

Recently Kies updated OS of my Samsung Galaxy S.
Details are as below after the update:

Firmware version: 2.2
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build Number: Froyo.DDJP6

After this update the response of the phone gone down drastically . I have not update any of my apps or added any data to the phone memory nor to the memory card.

Its take time to display the keyboard, search contacts, phone unlock, opening the messages etc every damn function is slowed down.

Please guide on what should I do to get the previous performance back.

Thanks in advance for all the guidance.

Regards
Sudhir

You should always perform a factory reset after upgrading your phone to eliminate all traces of the preceding firmware.

2.2 was notoriously slow hence the 2.2.1 update that followed. Who ever your carrier is, they clearly aren't to rapid with their upgrades.

It's not the carrier. It's Samsung India. They have yet to release a 2.2.1. version firmware.

Afraid that there's nothing you can do short off rooting your phone. You can try doing a factory reset, but I have a feeling it won't make a huge difference. My suggestion would be to flash a custom kernel that supports either voodoo lagfix or Universal Lag Fix. If all of this makes no sense to you, read the FAQ sticky. And then go to the All things about root section and read the rooting guide sticky.

Hi Liam,

Thanks for your guidance.

In India, our phone are not locked with a particular carrier until & unless we buy a handset from the carrier.

But I want to know how to upgrade to 2.2.1 using Samsung Kies software.

Regards

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for the info.

Please correct if I am wrong. If I perform factory reset all my calender data, contacts data & apps installed by me will be removed.

If this is true the how to take backup of these especially the apps since I can take backup of my calender & contacts using Kies.

Please guide.

Not easily. Kies don't allow you to update your phone to a firmware from another country without some registry hacking. Also, European firmware does not support Hindi (or whatever writing you use). This will also probably void your warranty (since you are using Kies in a way that wasn't intended by Samsung). Have a think about this first, and then give us your answer.

P.S. We do have an Indian thread. (Pretty strange phenomenon I have to say. Seems like every forum I visit has an Indian thread. I know there are a lot of people in your country, but it's still a little odd. It's a bit like an internet China Town.) http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s/104468-samsung-galaxy-s-indian-thread-52.html

Hi Snapper,

Thanks for the info. I am use only English US/UK so that will not be a problem, but I will check on the warranty terms & conditions.

But I don't understand why Samsung can't provide this update as its slowing down the Galaxy S drastically.

I will keep you guys updated.

Sudhir
Thanks

You should seriously consider choosing a firmware from samfirmware.com and flashing your phone with it rather than messing with registries and trying to spoof kies.

Hi All,

1. Which firmware should I use. i.e Froyo 2.2.1 or Gingerbread 2.3.3. Which one is best for Samsung Galaxy S.
2. Will all the samsung apps will be available on it as perviously once updated.

Please guide.

3) At the moment I would go with 2.2.1. 2.2.3. isn't too stable yet. There's a few small bugs, and Samsung has paused the update for the moment. But 2.2.1. has been out for a while and is completely stable. It's also a lot faster than 2.2.
2) Yes. Daily briefing, mini diary, ThinkFree Office, etc. will still be available. That includes the widgets too. (2.3.3. included some updated version of the daily briefing widgets, which looks cooler in my opinion.)

Liam, Snapper & Ryan.

Thanks for your precious time & the guidance. I will flash my firmware to Froyo 2.2.1 as the same update is not availbale through Kies in India but sicne Snapper is telling 2.3.3 looks cooler I think I will give it a try too.

But first update to 2.2.1 for sure.
Just trying a take backup of my contacts, Calendar & Memo...but for last 6Hrs Kies is exporting these data to my PC.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amazing phone but pathetic software.
