OS updates disabled after rooting

Hello. New forum member, new tablet user, and believe it or not, new mobile computer user. I have found most every answer to my many questions by googling, but answering this question is more elusive for some reason.

SCENARIO: Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7. Running Jellybean 4.1.1. Rooted with
[FONT=&quot]Odin & CF-Auto root procedure. All went well. Installed ROM manager and performed Nandroid backup. All went well.

I happened to do a manual check for updates (Settings / About Device / Software update), and I got "Your device has been modified. software updates are not available". I knew I was voiding my warranty by rooting, but have I also lost my ability to apply OS updates? There must be a workaround, but not finding it so far.

thanx ahead of time for any answers.

Hi Jim.

Since you've already been hanging out in the forums, I'll forego the welcome. :) (But welcome, anyway.)

A couple of things. Yes, with rooting you may lose the OTA updates, but you can always download the update and apply it manually. Depending on what recovery method you are using the exact procedure will differ.

I would shy away from ROM Manager as it has been notoriously unreliable with Samsung devices.

I see. Thanx for the welcome, as I actually am here for the very first time. I been googling for answers up to now, and they have been quite forthcoming. But as we know, some questions are best placed in a topical forum. ;>

I assume I just hit the Samsung site for OS updates and instructions to manually apply. I will head over there and have a look.

On selecting a good ROM manager, anything you like for the Samsung Tablets?

thanx
jim

Sorry, I don't have and Samsung tablets and have never made use of a ROM manager. I prefer to flash CWM recovery and install them individually.

If you are completely stock except for gaining root, then Samsung should have the updates, but if not stop in the All Things Root section of your tablet forum here. There are several versions of the Tab 2 now so you'll have to find which one you have and choose the right forum.) Android Tablets & MIDs - Android Forums
