Help OTA 2.34 update on rooted phone

Is there a way for me to apply the 2.34 update without flashing to a new rom? Like a incremental update? I tried (perhaps stupidly) to install OTA update which failed and led me to believe that it won't install because it's rooted (using stock).
I do not want to start from scratch again. My phone is only rooted because I wanted to use certain apps.

Best way is to install a rom that uses 2.3.4 as a base. OTA update will almost certainly cause major issues so sounds like you were lucky it failed

Actually it did "unroot" my phone. Updating Superuser binary seemed to have fixed it. What I don't understand is, how did it do this? I restored my backup prior to doing the update and it was still S-OFF but all apps requiring root access didin't work.. What could have it changed during the "failed" update?
