OTA update jan 8.

wow. can someone find any official documentation on this? i want to know what changes they made! anyone else gotten this?

ok wow. they spend time on this stuff, but we dont have a working youtube app and might not be getting 2.x. why is this phone seen as so insignificant to HTC?

So I didn't get the OTA notification on my wife's Eris, and when I check for system updates it says mine is up to date, so I do I download or force the update? I have been doing updates on BB's for 7+ years, so not worried about it if it is a manual process, just new to the android world. Thanks.

P.S. Found how to do it in another post, thanks though.

The fact that this maintenance release only fixed one issue likely points to either another maintenance release in the near future or the decision to fix only one major issue and wait on the others since 2.x will fix the others. Though you see lack of Youtube app support as a major issue (I do too), they see a phone that locks and can only be fixed by a battery pull as more urgent. That's what my phone was doing and I was ready to take it back...I can wait for Youtube.

Woke up at 7 am to find I had an update available here in Wisconsin. Very surprised because I didn't get the Dec. 11th update until the 14th.

If this is the January 22nd update and for some reason they are sending it out this early, something tells me that Android 2.1 project has something to do with it.

Perhaps they want to get this update out of the way ASAP so that the can concentrate on sending out 2.1 sooner?

Just a thought. And Wish :)

I really dont think this is the 2.0/2.1 OTA update. Can anyone confirm if your build number just says 1.17.605 or 2.0?

No, this is not 2.x...it is a bug fix update for 1.5.

I don't think that this was supposed to be the Jan 22nd update because it doesn't address the issues brought up with a target date of Jan 22nd for a fix. I think OS 2.1 is near.

Thank God! My Eris has been lagging for about three weeks now. It just hangs on the HTC screen for a solid 30 sec when I try to wake up my phone...

As an FYI, 2:11pm on the East coast, no update yet...

"HTC screen on wake" - huh?
That sounds like it's been powered off, not just put to sleep.

Yes you are most likely completely right. I guess that it just seems stupid because I never had this issue, and I'm worried I won't be getting a 2.x experience.

How would I know if I received the update? I don't live in a Verizon area. I'm always on the extended network, but the call issue on my phone is better. I don't think they could push the update to me where I live. Seems like some other things are better too. My phone is fairly new so I'm wondering if I received other big fixes I didn't know about. Maybe its in my head, and I'm getting used to a little bit of lag. I really like this phone.

That's a negative. I let the phone sleep (after inactivity) and when I use the finger swipe to wake the phone back up it hangs on the HTC screen for a while, then does the "loading" deal with the green circle. It sucks. It LOOKS like I turned it of and on again, but that's not the case.

how did you do it? i still have not received it and my phone says "system up to date"

Didn't do it after I discovered some of my Market apps might be gone, my luck I am without apps I need for 3 weeks. Unless someone can convince me I will have my apps, I guess I am at Verizon's timing mercy.

Does this not fix the Youtube problem? I thought I read the other day they were issuing a fix for that...

Of course it is stupid for them to put out this update. Obviously since you haven't had this problem, and it is all about you, there was no reason for them waste their time with such an update. Especially when they could have been more focus on the all important, supreme critical, life threatening YouTube problem. I mean, really, who gives a crap about people who can't use their phone at all when you can't watch 30 second videos of people get hit in the crotch.

But the Crotch videos are hilarious.
