Help OTA update notification

Dont know how or why this is happening. Have a rooted OG Droid running 2.2.1 FRG83D for 4 months now. Today I started getting a notification that FRG83G is downloaded & verified. I found the file & renamed if from zip to bak so If i click install, theres nothing to install. Rebooted. But still constantly get the notification. How can I rid myself of this monkey on my back? Thanks.

I have been running ICS and CM7 since I got mines, but I have tinkered with some stock roms, and there is an option to stop asking you to update. If you have a data service and the option is on, it will keep asking you over and over again to update.

Thanks for the reply. Ive given up. I renamed all kindsa files. changed build.prop, all with no luck. But found that if u answer install later it goes into the notification bar & as long as u dont clear it, it doesnt ask again til u reboot. I can live with that i guess.

Have you tried booting into recovery and clearing your cache?
