Root OTA update

I have a MyTouch 4g but I'm not with T-Mobile. Is there a way to get the same software update as those from T-Mobile? Is there another way to get it via wifi?
 
As far as I know you can only get it from TM. Or you can install a custom ROM that has the version you are looking for.
