Root ota update

Verizon is sending out an ota update. There is a possibility that an update can unroot your device. If you were previously rooted and accepted this update and lost root, please respond. More importantly, if you cannot re-obtain root. I personally will not be able to help you with a fix, however, it will show devs if the current root method has been patched. If the current root method was patched, devs should be able to find a new fix, however it may take some time.

My stellar kept failing to update while rooted. I haven't tried re-rotting it yet.

Did you unroot to accept the update? Did the update reinstall any deleted stock apps? Have you noticed what the update includes?
If you attempt to re root, please post back if you are successful or not.

My stellar was rooted. I used verizon's ota update. Phone was successfully updated. I checked for root and the phone was no longer rooted. Just followed the guide again and successfully rooted my stellar following the guide in the previous thread. The update was for minor things apparently

just attempted update.. since i have twrp recovery, upon first boot, it booted into recovery menu. i forced a system reboot. upon loading system, it showed a failure.

2nd attempt.. again, booted into recovery, i attempted to look through all of the files through twrp file manager to attempt to figure out if i could locate and install the update manually. i found nothing that jumped out as a new update file. i clicked the download option which instantly shut off the phone (yeah, i'm freaking at this point), i tried to turn it on... no go (really starting to panic). i did a battery pull and restarted, phone booted into a warning message screen about downloading custom roms may damage phone lalala. to proceed push vol up, to cancel push vol down. i pushed vol down and phone rebooted into its normal operating state.

i am now contemplating trying again, upon boot into recovery, selecting download and then pushing vol up. i have no custom roms on this phone (as none published to date work completely) aside from my system that i have personally stripped to my needs (see the stellar safe list), making me assume (yes, i know where this gets me... kinda why i pushed vol down) that behind this option is my update...

i will let you know what happens if i try this..

You will want to flash the stock recovery back before the update. The update will break your root but you should have no problem getting it back with the same methods.

Then you can flash TWRP back as your recovery. Kind of a pain but safest method of update.

I have a stripped down version posted here that works completely. It's not finished, yet, but it does clean up a lot of the bloat and removes the OTA updater.

I have most everything stripped off (see safe list).. Not too concerned about the updater. Just waiting patiently for a custom to come out like cyogen
