Root OTA updates on a rooted phone, and odd pauses during games

Okay, so I have had my phone rooted for a bit, and I have two questions. one: whenever I'm playing a game, very often the game will freeze sometimes the screen will just go black, and then the game will be back up and paused. turns out if I don't do anything for another few seconds after it pauses itself, it returns to home screen. I am using Mikrom's Mikshifted without any other add ons. and two: now that I have rooted my phone, I am concerned with hearing a rumor of a new ota update for the shift, and I was wondering if after a while, the phone will attempt to download on its own?

Hey there - just been looking through the unanswered threads and came across your's. I can't answer your first issue (sorry), but think I can give you some info regarding the second one (about the OTA update).

I have been rooted for nearly a year and my Desire HD has not ever tried to get an update OTA. I don't think that the phone could apply one automatically, even if there was one there.

From reading your post, I take it that you wouldn't try to apply an OTA update, which is good, as it could brick your phone.

I'm sure someone will be able to offer you some help on the other issue soon!!

all right, that's fine about the first issue, not much of a problem. but most certainly thanks about the second one. I had a small fear my phone might try to brick itself. Something even more off-topic though: is there any way to trick the phone into thinking it has more internal memory? I have apps2sd and all, but some apps refuse to move over, and having to deal with it is becoming a pain. I have tried to partition my SD using ROM manager, but that didn't do anything to the phone's internal memory.

What ROM are you using? Just adding a sd-ext won't do anything.. You to actually enable a2sd (not the same as the stock apps 2 sd) or run a a2sd script. Once you run the script anytime you download a app it will automatically move to your sd-ext. A lot of AOSP ROMs have a2sd built in, it just needs to be enabled. You can also use an app like link2sd or s2e to move apps to your sd-ext. The ideal way to do this (at least for me) is flash a fresh ROM, enable a2sd, then restore my backed up apps. This way, when the apps are being restored they all move to my sd-ext.

Edit: I see you said you're using MikShifted ROM.. I'm not sure if there is a a2sd version of that ROM or not.. but like I said you can use one of the mentioned apps from the market. If you do enable a2sd you shouldn't move apps to sd using the stock Android way, this can cause issues. Instead, just move those same apps to your sd-ext.
