Root OTA With Root + Stock + Custom Recovery

So I'm not able to apply the new OTA as I am rooted with nandroid rocovery installed. The last OTA went through without a hitch, but I'm guessing this one needs the stock recovery? If so, where can I find it? I can't find the proper one even in the noob friendly root guide, it only has the 2.01.605.11 and 3.14.605.12 recoveries. Unless 3.14.605.12 is the one I need? I installed it, but my OTA still failed. :/ Any help?
 
what is your current build in about phone? that is the recovery youll need.

however,alot of factors need to be right in order for it to go thru without a hitch,not the least of wich is all the bloat and original files need to be intact.

in some cases,it may be considerably easier to flash the new firmware from an OTAPkg,then simply re-install recovery and install a stock rom with the updates baked in.

OTAa do not bring you anything speical that you wont get by doing the above. :)
 
I'm needing this to restore to factory as well. I got the .12 to work once, but then it wouldn't download the .13 update from Verizon. I finally got it manually updated to .13, but now .14 won't download! Any chance on a .13 link?
 
unfortunately,3.14.605.13 was only a very minor OTA that there is no release for. its possible that it did not even include new firmware,so the recovery may be the same. only way to know for sure is to try and capture the OTA from .12 to .13 and check.

did you catch what build your OTA is trying to take you to? if its trying to take you to the global firmware(4.03.605.2) then there is definately new firmware involved and youll need the stock recovery to apply it.

as i mentioned,there are alot of factors that need to be correct before the phone will OTA. sorry but i have no idea why the OTA is not working.

there are only a couple things that i know of you could try,given the lack of ruus for the minor updates:

1) RUU back to 3.14.605.12. since .13 was such a minor update,it may let you. do not root or modify the phone untill the OTAs have finished. it may take a couple of days for the phone to OTA as far as it wants... usually it will install the next one in line,rather than jumping all the way to current.

2)RUU up to 4.03.605.2. again dont root or mod the phone till its done with the OTAs. the most current firmware that im aware of,is 4.03.605.14

im intending to try and catch these OTAs so well have the firmware,but it may take a few days.
 
I have hit a huge wall. I tried a few other things, and now all I can do is load Fastboot and if I do a fastboot boot with the AmonRa recovery, I can get in to that. It looks like the last OTA changed the HBoot to 2.28 instead of 2.27 so I can no longer flash an older RUU (like .12) without an HBoot is older error. Any ideas? I really appreciate the help! This is the first time I've borked something up this badly
 
If this works I owe you a darn good meal. Which method do I need to use to flash? I just want to make this as quick and painless as possible, I'm having a heart attack over here lol

You are a SAINT! Oh my Lanta, I was dying over here. That's what I get for jumping the update gun. I just want to make sure, this update file includes everything for the phone? Radio, etc etc? Is there anything else I need to do, and is there a way to return this to stock yet, just in case?

no,this is just the rom itself. if the firmware file doesnt pop up in a couple days,ill try and capture it on my phone,and then you can simply flash that.

you can try a "dirty flash"(no data wipe) but be prepaired to wipe fully if you experience force closes,hangs,reboots,or other random issues.

i will get my rezound loaded up eith 4.03.605.2 and see if i can get the new firmware for you guys :)
 
Scotty, are you running the CM10.1 ROM? Do you have any problems with call echo? Specifically, the other person hears an echo of their voice when I am on speakerphone, or using my car's speakers.

I dug around, and some say all AOSP ROMs have this issue. It may be something in the kernel not using the noise canceling microphone etc, since the stock ROM has no such issue.

I like the CM10.x stuff, but the call echo bug kills it for me. There was no help on xda either..

BTW, thanks for your posts. I still come back to your noobie guide to refresh my memory!
 
I don't have the echo prollem talking on a regular bt headset. I talk on it 2-3 hours a day while i drive :eek: I couldn't say for sure if the prollem would exist talking on the handset normally,or on a speaker... I'm pretty spoiled by my earpiece,lol. I'm on wildstangs 10.1
